Done in Ceramics class, made out of clay, fired (resulting in it being blown up), glued together, then painted with acrylic black and white paint.

It blew up in the kiln, so I had to hot glue a lot of pieces back together, resulting in a weird appearance in the chest area.

decided to paint that area black to try and cover it up. I changed the story to a white, beautiful swan transforming into a black, evil swan (only to explain the lumpiness from the glue haha.)

I also attached the picture of the blown up, unpainted pieces to show a before/after contrast.

(My teacher was rushing the class through this project, so the neck isn't as smooth as I'd want it, along with the head being smaller than intended.)

It blows when work explodes in the kiln so I think you did an awesome job making it work!

Also what could have happened, was that it probably wasn't given enough time to properly dry all the way before being put into the kiln for firing.  And that will cause it to explode in the kiln as the wet clay under the top layer of dry clay heated and the water started to expand.  Hard to explain, etc.  But, if the teacher was rushing this project, then more than likely, this piece wasn't fully dry all the way through before being fired.  Sometimes it's hard to tell as well if a piece is dry or not (all the way through); particularly if it's a thick piece, or has areas that are thicker than other areas.  I made a real nice bull dog sculpture out of clay in High school...and I just simply loved it.  It was by far the best work I had ever done working with clay and I was so proud of it....yeah, all I found of it after being fired was like 3 out of 5 of the spikes that were on it's collar.  Nothing else was even remotely recognizable.

I remember when I was in high school in ceramics class we had to make mythical creatures. I made this really sick ass centaur and someone got jealous and smashed it after it was fired. I was so pissed. But the teacher knew another student smashed it and gave me an a and then let me skip the rest of classes cause I was that mad over it. (Sculpting is my passion)
