Don't you think Elsa, from Frozen, is the stereotypical anorexic girl?

Have you watched Frozen?

I have, several times, and since the first time, it was impossible to me not to link Elsa's personality with the stereotypical personality of anorexic girls. I mean, I related SO MUCH to her in the sense that she's always supressing her desires to be "the good girl she always has to be" and is like a control freak. She has a really strong sense of guilty and responsability and because of that, she withdraws from her sister and from everyone else, afraid that her own feelings could hurt them. And the song Let It Go just would symbolize perfectly an anorexic girl in recovery.

I've been in therapy for 3 years or so, and what I learned from it is that my eating disorder is linked to my sense of guilty and the need I feel to be always in control, always the good and perfect girl who cannot show her desires or make any mistake. I brought this idea out to my sister, about the movie and she was like "NO SENSE!", but I think only an anorexic girl could undestand the correlation.

What do you guys think?

This is pretty interesting! I've always followed suit that she has depression, which can be tied in with anorexia quite a lot, but this theory makes sense too

That was my first thought when I saw the movie.. Although I think the song means that now they know so she doesn't have to hide it anymore but she's seen as a freak by society so she's left alone but she doesn't care because now she don't have to worry about others because she thinks they all hate her anyway and she doesn't deserve love, so she's free to lose weight without hurting anybody.. But in the end she finds out she is worthy of love and it's the love for herself that will make everything better..

But that's just my view on it ^^'

I never made the connection between her and someone with an eating disorder, but you're totally right about that. It could be seen that way as well.

A lot of different groups of people (those who live in hiding about their issues, those who face inner turmoil, etc) relate to Elsa for the same reasons you mentioned. That's why she's such a successful, realistic character.

Honestly, no. To me she has issues for obvious reasons, but I've never agreed with the ED similarities others have pointed out. It feels like over reaching to me.

Nope.

I heavily relate to Elsa, but I know it's all in my mind. As far as the movie is concerned, the only issue with Elsa is the fact that she feels guilty about hurting her sister, and she was basically taught to lock up all her emotions by her father.

I have always thought the Elsa's powers are actually a metaphor for some mental or physical issue and Let it Go song would be about embracing herself the way she is without letting the society's opinion restrict herself.

I can relate Elsa a lot more to my closeted bisexuality more than I do my disordered eating.

I don't know. She's more guilty about her behaviors and things than how I experience disordered eating.  She's also taught not to speak of her issues... basically what religion, and most of my relatives teach about homosexuality.

That's the parallel in Elsa that I've always seen.

Frozen is seriously my favorite movie and yeah I relate to Elsa SO much. I always associated her character with mental illness/addiction because of how she talks about herself and pushes people away and then she froze Anna's heart which symbolically happens to those close to people with mental illness/addiction and how love thaws, she needed the support and love of those important to her to be able to control her powers just like in recovery you need love and support to get better. Frozen is so full of symbolism not just with Elsa but with all the characters. It's beautiful.

I agree, shes very negative. Hence why shes left handed, cause left handed people are meant to be more negative and symmetrical.
