i practice (violin). can't eat when my hands are occupied. or if i want to distract myself but not wear out my fingers, i'll go online and practice some ear training; there are like a zillion websites with ear training exercises.
what else...drinking warm/hot water, or green tea. put on some music and stretch/do yoga. search for poetry online. but i'm a nerd, so my ways of distracting myself from food might not appeal to other people.
or i'll do some bullshit busywork that i've been putting off, like paying bills/sending in applications, cleaning my room/doing laundry, etc. i really need distractions right now because i'm on day 1 of a water fast!
sometimes when i'm fasting and have cravings, i'll write a list of everything that i would eat if i allowed myself to give in right now. then i look at the list, which is usually a mile long, and realize that there will never be an end to my wants and so what's the point of giving in this time?
