New forum... yeah... this is me. I had this start with GERD-like symptoms last year. It flares when I'm extraordinarily stressed. It's so subconscious that I barely consider it part of my mental illness.

oh my god

Tragedy in Melancholy

A jagged rock thrust

my chest the pain

As if ive encountered an avalanche today

Can’t make it go away

Trapped in an absence

Thoughts are making no sense

Blurred vision

what am I missing?

Cant break this fast,

if im able to last

Trying to delay,

to my mother’s dismay

I lie alone and

Search my skin for bone

Mind is swimming,

Hell is the reality I’m living

Insides are screamin,

Fighting to keep it within

Crushing my lungs,

the silence

my song unsung

I'm in treatment at the moment seeing a physical therapist. However, it's a long, bumpy road that could take months to be fixed - that is if the treatment manages to work.

And I was never bulimic or any other kind of ED in the past, this just kind of...started.

Me too, mine started when I contracted Lyme Diaease; I was a slightly restrictive orthorexic up until that point.

Heh, I had this when I was younger! It's actually what triggered my bulimia. I used to just re-chew what I regurgitated, then I started spitting it into the toilet

Bulimia only happened when I figured out that I could just get rid of ALL the food instead of only some of it

I had no idea this was actually considered a disorder?? I've been doing it for quite some time, I believe due to to the fact I never have used my hands or objects to purge, its just reflex. And now whenever I eat a little too much it just comes up automatically. Normally I chew it and swallow the first couple of times but others I just end up purging immediately. It sucks because it encourages me to purge, and because people i'm around think i'm absolutely disgusting. They don't believe when I say I can't help it.

Why rechew it again though? Why not spit it out?

Well since this thread is for people who don't feel like googling (excuse me if this has already been answered: I don't feel like reading through the entire thread either)...

I've heard both "rumination disorder (RD)" and "rumination syndrome" used.

Are they two slightly varied names for the same diagnosis, or are there actually two different diagnoses?  And if they are two different diagnoses, what is the distinction between the two?

If anyone answers this, thank you in advance.

If not, I'll probably look it up on my own in the morning.

Is the PT for the rumination?  Just wondering what kind of exercises you might be doing that could help with this.

If I swallow and bring up a bit of food (like say, one teaspoon) and mess around with it in the back of my throat and then swlalow it, or just swallow it again, is that rumination disorder? It doesn't alwayus happen, but I'd say 80% of the time, I can bring up a little. I do this unconsciously.
