and if you went from restricting your calories really low and then upped it to 1000-1200, did you gain weight for a while, or did you still lose weight?

what does your intake look like on an average day? do you exercise too? and do you make up for the calories you burned off or not?

I was losing weight at 1000 to 1200, but just more slowly than when I restricted more. I've never restricted really low for a really extended period of time. I usually have occasional binges or plateus in my calorie intake with spurts of more extreme restriction sprinkled in, so I don't know if my metabolism can be compared to yours. I mean, I'm not sure exectly what you've been doing, and not sure if doing consistent long term restriction might affect metabolism so that it would be different than mine. Anyway, I have had a calorie increase boost my metabolism, especially if I take advantage of the calorie boost to exercise..and you may be comforted by the fact that I did continue to slowly lose when I was at 1000-1200 cal. Another thing that would help is figuring out your basal metabolic rate (BMR). I went to scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/  ..after typing in my info it told me how many calories I burn just by living, and how fast I would drop weight if I went below it. It would help you a lot I think. For example, it told me that my BMR burns 1354 cal, and that to maintain my weight I'd need 2099 cal daily...and if I want to lose 1 lb per week I should eat 1574 cal. It takes exercise into account too. To answer your other questions, I was only exercising for a half hour of cardio as well as some light weight or body weight exercises each day when I was doing the 1000 to 1200 cal, so I was only burning 200-300 cal with that workout (maybe more?). Sometimes I would do more, like hour long aerobics classes but never more than an hour or so. You can burn a lot of calories in an hour, though. Currently trying a different diet..you can check out my accountability thread for more info if you want.

I was at 1200 for a while after my first recovery. They didn't want to 'shock' my system too fast. For about 2 weeks or so I gained a bit back. Around 5-10 lbs. which appeased them, but after the 3rd to 4th week, I started losing again. Very slowly losing though. The regular 1-2 lbs. per week deal. Did exercise a lot as I had a job that required it. Unfortunately though, I just can't seem to keep myself in that mentality for an extended period of time. For me, even eating 1200 seems like a ton of food. I eventually fall back to under 1,000, more around 500. I keep 1,000 as my max now, but make sure to still burn quite a bit.

I lost my first 100lbs by eating 1500 cals a day and doing insanity, it took 7 months. I was eating 5 times a day and it was completely clean. Obviously the closer i got to a healthy BMI the slower the weight came off so i started restricting again and the weight started dropping off.

I loved that i was losing so much weight but because of all the food still had the energy to exercise my ass off (literally :P )

I usually keep it at around 500-600 a day. I don't find it hard at all. Been losing weight slowly, like 2-3 pounds a week. Also take Dexatrim Natural diet pills and drink lots of water and Diet Coke.

Does anyone know how fast you lose weight by eating 1200 calories? I'm trying to recover again, but still lose weight. Just wondering how fast it is.

Well I usually stay around 1100-1200. I don't know how fast it will make u lose weight cus I don't know how much u weigh or how much you are eating. But for me I lost weight doing this very quickly as I use o just eat whatever I wanted. But this way I still can eat and lose weight. Also here's an example: if u want to maintain a weight of 120, multiply 120x10=1200 cals a day

it depends on a lot of different factors. your metabolism, how many calories you were previously consuming in a day, whether or not you are overweight, whether or not you are also exercising, and what you are eating. try to keep youth sodium levels under 2200 mgs per day and you can probably expect .5-2lbs of weight loss per week. but don't be discouraged if your weight loss is different from that.

I lost weight in the past from going from literally binging all day (we are talking a dinner of 3 bowls of spaghetti and 20 chicken nuggets) to eating 1200 cals a day plus 3 sets of 10 different strength training exercises every day and 30 minutes of cardio every day. I went from 146 to 125 in about 2 months.

I did today with hopes of resetting my metabolism. I hit a few days where I stopped losing so I ate about 1100 and exercised so my net was close to 780...

I'm really hoping it helps out : ] I probably won't eat in the 1000s until I'm ready to maintain.

1200 is the healthy calorie amount to eat when losing weight. I don't want to encourage anyone to do anything close to what I do to my body. I know that hunger hurts and I don't want my problem to encourage someone else's.

I started of with around 500 a day and lost weight quickly, but then i started to do a lot of cardio and figured I better eat a little more to not put my body in starvation mode. So I ate about 1200 kcal a day for a while along with an hour of intense cardio a day and yes, I kept losing weight, but like 1-2 kg a month.... So I recently lowered my intake again to <500 and I am losing weight much faster! Lost almost 1 kg the past week! So I don't really believe in this starvation mode-thing and will stay this "low" for as long as possible I think..

I usually eat 0-800 a day, averaging at 400-500. But last week I managed to eat on average 200 a day and was really bloated (still am). -.-
Anyway my point is yesterday I binged big time and purged some but not all of it. I mean i kept down 2650! Felt awful, but today i noticed my wrists are smaller and my thighs firmer and less jiggly. Today i had 402.75 cals and still look like i'm pregnant (10 lbs bloated- i know!!!!) but at least i know it's just from being bloated.
Has anyone had this problem? Like, being bloated constantly and telling yourself you haven't gotten fatter and it's like ana is screaming at me 'stop making excuses! U are fat! A disgusting fat pig! Worthless piece of sh*t!'.
Some times i break down, cry and cut myself. Then fast for a few days and am pressured to eat (i hide anything and throw it away but i usually eat some vegetables in front of them).
Basically i can easily lose 8-12 lbs if i fast for 2 days or so i need some assurance... Please?
Gosh i feel desperate! Freaking hell!

If its your BMR it means that that is what you need in order to exist and lay on the couch without moving a finger, everything you do every step you take increases the need of calories. In terms of healthy dieting one should never go under one's BMR. I've been eating an average of 1200 for a week now and lost exactly 1 pound which would indicate that my maintaining calories would be somewhere between 1800-1900.

I gain weight when I even come close to 1000. I HATE it and don't understand. But I would think that once your body & matabalism gets adjusted/well again, u will lose. So yea u should lose. Good luck!

I'm an exercise bulimic so I need the extra calories to be motivated to get off the couch, and also to fuel my sessions. I eat every 3-4 hours, unless it's a bad day, then I eat once a day and exercise in the mornings.

My Day

  • 30 min-2 hours, usually split into 2 or 3 sessions (using incline and speed to adjust to how my muscles feel)
  • always burn at least 500 calories

Intake is usually about 700-1200 calories:

  • Breakfast: Baby Carrots, Apple
  • Lunch: Sparkling Water (0 cals), Egg
  • Snacks: Coffee, baby carrots, apples, tea, 10 dark chocolate chips
  • Dinner: 1 cup of whatever my mom fixes, (little carbs as possible, heavy on the veggies and lean meats)

I'm a cow with a sugar addiction.

I need to see my hipbones.

Diagnosed EDNOS (cause I'm a fatty)

UGW: 88 pounds

I've been staying around 800-1300 calories a day and the last two weeks I've lost 4lbs total. Slow but better than gaining.

I'm losing weight slowly at 1300 a day. I have never restricted to lower than that. 30 pounds in about 9 or 10 months. I exercise very lightly.
