I think I may have it. After I’m done purging there’s a chunk of food left in my esophagus that I just move up and down until I feel like spitting it out

Thank you for explaining this in a way that describe this disorder well, but makes it hard to explain for people that don't have it/help people who do recognize it. I've looked online in the past to see if there was s term for what I do but had no luck finding anything. This is a very useful reference. <3

I do this also. I feel bad for my sibling across the hall from me (I had to move in temporarily to my adult sibling & mother's house for health issues & injuries), they are always awake late like me and I hope they don't hear me doing that. I definitely wouldn't want them going to my mom and pointing it out because CS has pretty much prevented me from relapsing into bulimia.

OMG. I've been doing this since I was a little, little girl. It has nothing to do with bulimia. Most of the time, I just rechew it and swallow it and to be honest, I really enjoy doing it. I can also purge "hands free" and have always been able to.

This is the same for me too. I think the earliest I can remember doing it I would’ve been 5 or 6? Looking back I think it would’ve been a self-soothing mechanism. It’s never acidic - basically it tastes the same as whenever I ate whatever it was. I don’t do it when the vom is acidic. I still do it without meaning to. Interesting fact - my brother does this also (it also started at a young age for him) and after asking some strategic questions it happens to my dad too. Might be more common with people who have relaxed cardiac sphincters (the “valve” that keeps your food in your stomach). Apparently a relaxed cardiac sphincter can be genetic.

Hell, I think I might have had this at age 7 to 15?!
I would binge on cereal, swallow a little, regurgitate it. Sometimes I'd spit it out and eat it again. This could go on for hours and I'd read while doing it, so it wasn't a fully conscious thing.. I remember how soothing it was, it wasn't weight related at all, but I gained weight from consuming so many extra cals, so I started purging and developed bulimia.
I can't purge hands free tho, and I can't regurgitate anymore, no idea why

Everything that kills me makes me feel alive

! Does making food come back up when I feel like it's going to choke or is uncomfortable count? I'll re-chew it better or discreetly spit it out as I don't want to choke. I have a hard time swallowing some things. (Okay, almost all food that isn't smooth) I choke on everything from meat to even water! O.o
