Well, Mondays should be update day! I will be able to do at least a one day if not a 2 day mono most weekends. Some of them might have to be a bit boring to avoid detection if I am staying at my parent's house but I'm determined to keep it up this time.

Getting quite nervous about this porridge (oatmeal to those of you in the US) mono tomorrow. I have sachets that I have had for months with the intention of doing it but I have a real fear of carbs so this will definitely be a challenge, I'm worried I'll gain, which is a possibility as I have been doing high protein all week so I probably don't have a lot of glycogen stored, and therefore less water, but we'll see,

I'll let you know on Monday how it went!

Considering whether or not to make this a picture journal as well. I kind of like the format I was using, I guess I will keep that and maybe add then as a spoiler.

OATMEAL/PORRIDGE MONO


Intake: 7 x 27g sachets 100% wholegrain oats instant porridge
Water: 2.5L

Cost: £0.99
BM: No

 

RESULTS:
-0 LB

 

NOTES:
This probably wasn't a fully accurate experiment because I only had 700 cals worth of oats during the whole day, and I was doing high protein liquids only the week beforehand, so I would like to see what happens if I try it again, not having previously on a liquid only diet and not having restricted carbs in the days leading up to it.
It has succeeded in making me much less afraid of carbs, and I am now able to consider them a safe food I might incorporate daily in future.

 

CONCLUSION:

Inconclusive. Will try again, probably in February as I have plenty of oats left.

Looks like avocados might be on offer in Tesco this week! Looking forward to this quite a lot now that I have conquered the bigger fear (carbs) I feel like eating something high fat that I normally avoid is not going to be as difficult.

I don't really get how pizza can be a mono cause it is made of so many different ingredients but if I got all the way through my list and haven't gained a tonne of weigh then maybe I'd try it.

AVOCADO MONO


Intake: 8 x Small Avocados
Cals: 2023
Water: 2L

Cost: £3.92
BM: Yes

 

RESULTS:
+ 0.6lb

 

NOTES: I was surprised at how not-sick of avocados I got over the course of the day. Terrifying to add up the cals but I was really craving and actually, for the first time in a while, quite hungry. Had a sore stomach, but this is normal for me so I doubt it was a side effect of the mono as it's been like this all week.
 

CONCLUSION: Yes, I gained on this (which isn't really surprising given that it was above my TDEE and it totaled nearly a kg in food weight which might not all have gone through yet) but in spite of that I feel it worked to let me indulge in something that is completely off limits usually, and I hope that going back to my usual plan today will help even that out. It hasn't sickened me of avocados the way a chocolate mono does but I feel I've had enough of them for now, and I'm looking forward to my protein shake mono Mon-Sat and hopefully a Chia Pudding Mono next Sun.

I hope you guys still check in, with the lack of notifications I keep wondering if anyone will see this but I hope that it will be a cumulative project that I can keep adding to and you can drop by and see the master list on the front page getting coloured in according to results and then I'll get to doing repeat trials to average out the results in case there are flukes.

Expect there to be a number of halo top monos as I work my way through the flavours. I got the last 2 Peanut Butter Cup but EVERYTHING else was sold out, so I hope they restock.

CHIA PUDDING MONO

 

Intake: 20g Chia seeds made with 250ml Oaty Cream and 250ml water
Cals: 824
Water: 2L

Cost: £0.79 for the cream, had chia seeds already, maybe another £1 for the whole bag.  
BM: Yes

 

RESULTS:
-0.9lb

 

NOTES: Very pleased with the consistency of the chia pudding but in future I would make it with oat milk or even flavoured soya milk or something because while the richness of the cream was nice to begin with it was a bit much by my third meal of it. 
 

CONCLUSION: Successful mono, will try again and try out different milks. I think it also helped move things along after a couple of days of b/p and not having a BM which could account for some of the loss but also cals are low so it is basically restriction but kept me full and satisfied all day.

There will be more than one mono update this week because I made Raw Chocolate with my mum yesterday and the recipe split neatly into 300g each, I made her some pretty shaped chocolates and brought the plain 15-20g bars home for myself and I have been wanting to try this for AGES. Also, I have no self control so I would end up eating them all before next weekend, so why not just mono today as well? The recipe is basically cocoa butter and coconut oil with some raw cocoa powder so this is the equivalent of a fat mono, but with it being concealed in the bar it's a lot easier to cope with than the idea of a coconut oil mono by itself. 

Will update tomorrow with results :)

MORE EXCITING NEWS! 

I managed to get another Peanut Butter Cup Halo Top as well as 3 each of Cinnamon Roll and Mint Choc so all set for a few days of ice cream monos!
I am waiting for them to restock Salted Caramel and Cookie Dough as I want to try them as well.


I will probably be doing a mono every other day this week instead of just once at the weekend, and doing either fruit/veg monos or just mixed fruit and veg days in between to curb those nutrient cravings you get when you eat junk foods. I am definitely looking forward to some fruit and veg after this Raw Choc Mono.
