It was hot as balls today, so I got a £1 box of ice lollies from Morrison's and just pounded them.

405681011_0_640x640.jpg?identifier=dcc2b
8 lollies per box, but the MFP entry isn't accurate (the cherry ones are 41 cals, but cola and lemonade are 38 each, hence the Tesco entries)

Had 6 psyllium husk capsules spaced over the day, as my stomach was growling, but I wasn't 'head hungry'.

* edited - just realised I didn't eat one of the 38 cal lollies (because I just found it melted in my bag, lol) so I've revised intake numbers.

This speaks to me on so many levels. I just had to buy 2 weeks groceries with £5 because I just moved to London to start a new job and won’t get paid until the 16th I binged and impulse bought away vast amounts of my savings as well, such an awful feeling. I hope your financial situation improves soon! x

Seriously. I went out the dollar store and bought $20 worth of food that'll hopefully last me the month. It was a shit ton of frozen veggies, broth, oatmeal, and tuna. ._. It's the poor life.

At least I'm prepared for college :')

Keep going OP. This shit is tough but you can make it - if anyone can, it's the stubborn people on MPA.

Wasn't 'head hungry' at all today, just a tiny bit 'tummy hungry', so just had sweets out of boredom, really.

Yes, I chased pop rocks with diet cola,

MFP listing for the Fruitella sweets was wrong (6 cals each instead of the 6.5 cals I calculated  from the 29 sweets per 90g), so submitted a corrected version. These are great, as they are sweetened with stevia, so they don't make you shit your knickers if you eat more than four, like sugar alcohols.

LN_592049_BP_11.jpg

MFP for the Tango 'pop rocks & tiny lolly' treat was wildly inaccurate too, so input the numbers direct from the packet as another corrected version. Who are these dumb ass people??!!

tango-shock-rocks-new-zoom.jpg

I ALWAYS double check label and MFP, because inaccuracies are so common.

Yes, I'm very anal about maths  :P

I can't cope with the normal checkout! Has to be self service.

I was an ASDA checkout girl through university and we were judgy bitches back there! Especially when you had folk buying two bottles of sherry at 8am, LOL.

Bought my bodyweight in Cup a Soups there the other day, while they're still 60p, so hopefully not going back til June.

London can be pretty mean when you first get here.

Been here 11 years, and I'm still not settled! I'm planning on leaving before Oct/Nov, and moving somewhere a bit less stressful and hectic (had to quit work in 2016 because of a huge bipolar manic episode) and maybe getting a quiet little admin job.

There's a lot of good things here - once you have some money coming in, Japan Centre is AWESOME. It's a teensie bit expensive, but it's good fun and worth it.

Good luck with your new job!

The struggle is real, man!

Always envied American Dollar Stores. We have plenty of Poundlands and Poundworlds and Poundstretchers, but it's all predominantly crap.

Good for things like toiletries and snacks, but nothing really close to actual food.

Chin up, you'll get her done

The 'Diet Plan' & Boring Details

  • The £20 per month allowance is not just for food. It's for EVERYTHING.

I get £868 a month in state benefits, and £770 of that goes on rent and bills.

That leaves me with £98 a month to spend on food, drink, shampoo, hookers, blow and yachts.

I'm cutting this down to £20.

  • I already have a stockpile of store cupboard items which includes 80+ sachets of Cup a Soup, to give you an idea.

When I was working, my job involved spending my day knee deep in data analytics, so obviously I have an incredibly, excessively detailed spreadsheet documenting everything I have, down to the last tea bag.

I've been out of work and living on state disability for over 2 years, so my stockpile is not only one of an eating disordered and bipolar type 1 person, but also of a person living on under £900 per month (£500 of which is rent), so essentially zero nutritional value and cheap, which is why I take supplements to stop me getting Victorian diseases.

Cup a Soups are usually £1.20 for a box of 4, but are often on offer, which is why there's so many. I also occasionally use an online store that sells manufacturer stock clearance/past best before date items, which is why items might look insanely cheap.

So when I say 'stockpile', we're not talking about mountains of foie gras and shit.

Starting value of stockpile as at May 3rd:

Food and Drink:  £111.46

Supplements, painkillers, etc: £40.30

tumblr_llxcly9Dy11qzawi5o1_500.gif

  • Daily cals, £ spent, stockpile use and links to daily food diaries posted on the main post.

  • I'm saying 0-500 cals per day, but it's not a target. It's an anticipated daily intake based on my shit appetite (I often don't get 'head hungry', even if my stomach rumbles) and the shit quality food I'm eating (sweeties and water mainly)

That said, if I see multiple packets of £4:00 per pack fancy deli meat reduced to £0:10 at Morrison's (as I often do), I'm gonna buy the shit out of it and so intake may go up that day.

  • Main focus of this 'plan' is about saving cold, hard, cash. NOT 'lose x amount of weight by x date'.

I can't NOT lose weight, and I'll keep that updated, but only as lbs lost and even that is 'just out of interest'.

I'm not intentionally starving myself on some demented Goddess Ana/K-Pop/Hentai diet (because I'm not 12), I'll eat when I'm hungry.

I just have a shit appetite because of my crazy pills.

  • I'm not getting involved with the whole 'start weight', 'goal weight' 'end weight' thing, because:

1/ I don't care. I just want to save that sweet, sweet cash

2/ there's people younger and far less mentally ill than me on MPA and I don't want to encourage risky and damaging behaviours around food.

The sensible, maintainable, slower but safer and healthier recommended weight loss for adults is generally 2lbs a week

'Normal' people using MyFitnessPal are set 1200 cals per day as absolute minimum to lose that (yes, we can still rebel and customise our own targets)

Listen to MFP (other calorie trackers are available), not this random British bird off the internet with years of eating disorders and bipolar 1, and stay healthy.   ;)

KeyPeele_409_gif_AerobicsMeltdown01_400x

Other Stuff / Notes

  • Got an amazing deal on hundreds of 2mg nicotine gum pellets due to a pricing/stock error (packs of 96 Galpharm brand for £1!!, Thanks Poundland!), so that's why they look so cheap. I don't smoke (I vape 12mg occasionally) but I like the weird sensation/almost like a throat hit thing with these, because I'm weird.

  • Food prices might be cheaper than you'd expect sometimes - usually due to deals/3 for 2/ 2 for 1/ BOGOF that I've often stockpiled (eg, Cup a Soup is 60p for 4 servings right now and own brand fizzy drinks are £1:25 for 3 x 2ltr at my regular shop) and 'end of day' reduced sticker/clearance price items in store as well as stuff from Approved Food, as mentioned above.

  • Majority of non crazy pills and supplements for May and June are already pre-bought and stockpiled,  but I want to keep a tally on daily cost, out of interest. Replacements will come out of my £20 per month allowance each month.

  • I want to track everything that passes my lips, hence* inclusion of stuff like added salt and pepper  (outwith that already in food), because I want to keep sodium levels low. I use the individual salt and pepper packets you get free at fast food joints (I've pinched a TON over the months!). I also want to ensure I've done all my supplements/crazy pills and haven't gone nuts with OTC painkillers (Nurofen+ has codeine) and non prescribed, additional sedatives (Phenergan). I get bad headaches quite frequently, presumably from a combination of a terrible diet and my crazy pills. Phenergan is an antihistamine, but it can also be used as a sedative (one of my crazy pills is an anti psychotic which is supposed to knock me out at bedtime, but sometimes it's not enough (it's not unheard of for me to naturally stay wide awake for 3-4 days in a row, unmedicated. My record is 7, but then I got sectioned, so I don't recommend it).

  • Oh, and I'm on a strict no spewing (for life, ideally) mission too. I've gone from YEARS of 10 x spews a day to just three since Jan 1st, so it's no sweat. (In the highly unlikely event that I do spew (my housemates are filthy so involuntary vomiting can't be ruled out), I'll log it.

  • And no alcohol until Christmas, which is a bloody doddle and a piece of piss, because of the cash issue

1*X_lOJvDQvzKtq_O70rMFRg.gif

Why I'm Doing This

I had a £35k per year job and a 1 bedroom flat before I had to give up work due to my mental health, but now I'm in a houseshare with the biggest collection of thundering assholes known to humanity.

I hate the city I live in and the human garbage, asshole people I live with, so I'm trying to save up an escape fund to cover the costs of moving to a new area and, hopefully, into a 1 bedroom flat as soon as possible and maybe even find a boring admin job that's wildly beneath my skills and experience, but won't fling me into another Mental Health Act holiday in the nuthouse due to a stress induced psychotic breakdown.

I already have £2,619 saved.

I need a minimum of £3,150 to cover the anticipated cost of a holding deposit, flat deposit, agency fees, advance rent and a man & van to shift me and all my shit.

3mgS.gif

People on benefits are the scum of the Earth, according to the vast majority of lettings agents, (presumably because we all have at least two Staffies each, are addicted to Frosty Jacks and Spice, and will destroy their flats for shits and giggles) so I'm hoping that if I pay enough rent in advance, they'll trust me not to trash their property and let me rent a poxy little flat.

The other reason I'm saving money by doing this is because there's a risk I'll lose my disability in September/October.

The Tories are evil c*nts and take great delight in denying genuinely sick people the money they're entitled to.

My disability benefit is up for review at approximately the end of September (they just kind of spring it on you, so it may be earlier) and I want to be prepared in case they kick me off it and onto 'Jobseeker's Allowance' (meaning I instantly lose £300+ per month in benefits).

Ideally, I'll have moved away by the time this happens, and maybe even back into work, but I want a safety net in case I end up in an 'I, Daniel Blake' situation.

May 10th Update:

Property management rang today to say they're kicking us all out, because they want the house back, and want me gone by 10th June. Spoke to Shelter and got advice, and emailed the scumbags, laying out that what they're trying to do is illegal, so they backed the fuck up a fair bit. I'm so glad I've got my savings, because I'm DEFINITELY moving house in the next two months now, rather than in the several months I had planned for myself, thanks to these assholes.

Have had to apply to withdraw my £2,619 savings from my 30 day notice savings account (which I only set up the other fucking day) to cover the cost of moving, so wont get it in my current account until 11th June.

Don't be hard on yourself.

If you want to cut back on your food spending, why not open up a little savings account with your bank, and pay your 'binge money' into that, rather than at the store?

I'm not sure how it works outside of the UK, but you can have savings accounts here where you have to wait 30 days before you can take any money back out.

It'd physically stop you from being able to waste the money you've already saved up in there, for 30 whole days!

£0:30 - Phenergan 25mg x 2

Load of painkillers today, because of Aunt Flo and her monthly fucking gift.

Took some Phenergan, as I needed to have an afternoon nap, because I've not really slept properly the past couple of nights, even with my quetiepine (called Seroquel, in America).

Herbs and peas were added to the chicken Slim A Soups, spread over the three cups, to make them more interesting.

Batchelors used to do a Chicken and Sweetcorn Slim a Soup, which was gorgeous, but they discontinued it, so I've been adding tinned veg to the plain chicken ones ever since, to try and replicate them. The 'poor people' range of tinned veg at Morrison's is limited (peas, carrots, potatoes, sweetcorn), but pretty good.

Not very 'head hungry' today, bit of a grumbling stomach, but all hail King Oxo and bulk forming capsules for sorting that out.

Incessant headache from the past few days appears to have stopped, thank christ.  The Nurofen+ I have was expensive, and I can't afford to take it every frigging day.
