So I have a weird paranoia with food. I'm not sure if this is how other people experience safe foods,If this is how safe foods work, or if i've developed my own crazy paranoia seperate from my issues surrounding weight gain.

So basically im terrified of being poisoned or getting food poisoning (I also have emtaphobia so that might contribute) If a raspberry is too soft or red then I wont eat it, If bread it dry, or if food has been left out for an hour, or been in the fridge. Chip dip is awful for me, I can only eat it right after I open it, even if I only eat 2 bites I designate that dip as "bad" after I put it down to stop eating, I don't eat week old ice cream even if its stayed frozen, I wont eat anything frozen over 2 weeks old at max, and If I do eat these foods I'm panicky and scared and worried and I feel the food sitting in my stomach and I feel gross. I pretty much live off packaged and boxed food because it seems "safe" to me, I'm so paranoid about things like vegetables and milk, even if my common sense says it cant go bad in an hour if I just bought it.

So Im not sure if I'm experiencing "Safe foods" or if I'm just paranoid about getting sick, I'm not really sure how safe foods work for other people, I don't have a lot of people I can bounce ideas off of. Just curious if anyone else has the same issues or if I'm the weird one here

I get "paranoid" about contamination from raw meats, which people make fun of but to me this is a legitimate concern. It is a real cooking rule not to put other foods where raw meat has been/is. If I cook with raw meat I will wash my hands a dozen times through out the process. I also have an issue with anything dairy that has been opened (even in the fridge) or is a couple days old. I don't drink milk, but when people tell me "just smell it" to tell if it has gone bad I get confused because milk always smells bad to me. I was a nervous and picky eater as a child so this may stem from that.

I don't really know. I have a similar experience but with a completely different fear behind it (my fear is developing addictions, so I count grams of sugar more intently than I do calories; non-vegan foods are scary because people find it difficult to be vegan therefore those foods are addictive; foods that I've seen other people overeating; foods that contain caffeine or alcohol are contaminated etc)

I think it's basically how the whole 'safe foods' thing develops but it's just a... more roundabout/indirect way of developing it than straightforward "this one makes you fat and this one doesn't." Emotionally it's very similar to the way in which it feels like making the body fatter = poisoning/contaminating the body

it sounds like to me this may be a kind of anxiety disorder? especially if you have emetophobia.

even if the term "safe foods" may be used a little different here - i think on this site in particular it refers to foods people think are safe to eat in terms of their weight loss rather than in terms of getting sick by bad food.

but i'm sure you are not the only one who feels this way and i hope you can find a way to feel better about it someday <3

This sounds like what I was like before I got treatment for OCD. Perhaps you have some sort of anxiety disorder or OCD? I hope you get help and relief for this, I know it’s hard <3
