At my worst I basically lost the will to live so you literally can't eat and even gag when trying to swallow food. The body is too weak to think rationally. Im not that extreme anymore but on a good day I eat 600-1000 cals.

I don't agreed with the whole 'starvation mode' thing where your body starts attacking muscle....no it starts attacking fat! So your body being hungry fasting makes it get energy from fat.

This yes thank you.

Reverse thinspo ruined food for me basically. And now I feel awful stomaching more than 500 cal a day. I've always been bigger (I don't know my exact weight right now don't have a scale) but restricting makes me feel better about myself. It's the only thing I have under control in my life. That's why I like it so much. I was huge into fasting as well. I would go 10 days at a time before eating. And like someone said earlier, my body is just used to it.

Almost, almost but not quite, you can function while starving.

Do you ever get hungry? Too hungry to eat?

Mentally, I can't do it because I am terrified of the disgusting and regretful way I feel after I eat more than I am okay with. And because eating can lead to binge cycles, which then lead to depression for me. So I just avoid it. I hate the feeling of being full. Feeling an empty stomach makes me calm and happy.

Physically, your stomach shrinks and your digestive system goes into a sort of hibernation. I tried to eat an actual "meal" a few weeks ago, and ended up with horrible cramps and involuntarily threw it up the next day. It was chicken, mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach, and everything came out as it went in because my stomach was unable to digest it properly. I never feel actual hunger anymore, either.

My body is used to it now tbh. I feel tired sometimes but that’s really it. I usually will feel pain if i try to eat what a normal person eats. Honestly speaking, food doesnt really appeal to me, i have lost all interest. If it were up to me, I’d probably starve to death

Part of me doesn't even know why usually my brain will be like "aye you don't have to starve when your life is going decent for once" But rn I'm like nah dude I'm good I'll just stay right here. I think for me I just do it as self punishment, I don't deserve food and I just don't WANT it. Weight loss is just a plus. Maybe subconsciously it is about control because while I do feel decently happy my life is all over the place.

Honestly, I just have no appetite. I'm stressed TF out like 100% of the time, waaay to stressed out to eat. Also, I'm a total control freak, with zero control over my life, so controling my food intake and playing around with the wonderous mathematical numbers that are calories, Kg/lbs, BMI and so on are pretty much the only thing that gets me through the day without having a breakdown.

You need a deficit of 3000 calories to lose 1lb of fat so if you're right it's most likely water weight.
Have you averaged it out over several weeks to accurately compare results? Cos if it's just one day you can't realistically lose in one day.

yes, i have averaged it. its always 1 pound lost a day, 7 pounds lost a week, 30 pounds lost a month. i wish i could lose more weight eating 200 calories but i cant, so i just eat 1000 calories cause its same weight lost either way. i guess its just how my body works maybe?

You shouldn't be losing that much unless you're VERY overweight then that would explain it, or you have an issue with your metabolism.

I'm not sure I can literally have nothing but gum all day if I don't let my emotions take over and make me binge, but I'll still feel guilty and like I'll gain weight. I don't understand it, but it happens and then other days I'm fine and I'll eat up to 500 or 600 cal in eggs and skinless chicken breast or canadian ham. Lol my diet... makes me feel better all protein. Used to be i was scared of protein and only ate 200 to 300 cal in veg. I guess it differs depending on the mood and how bad it is at the time

im just wondering how you guys are able to eat so little everyday. like if i eat under 500 calories, ill get really sick and my body will start to reject food if i try to eat.

another question. please dont get mad at me for asking: but why? for me if i eat 250 calories ill lose they same amount of weight from eating 1000 calories.

i even lost a pound from eating 1200 calories once. so whats the point of eating like 200 calories daily?

There isn't a point of eating 200 calories to lose weight, most of the people who do it have reactive binges and don't admit it and will get mad that I said this. With rare exceptions even very thin people can continue losing weight at 1000-1200 calories.  The people on here who brag about eating under 500 always and never going over it to make everyone else feel bad are a minority; having an ED/anorexia has never been about your daily intake, but about losing weight long term and staying at a lower weight.

As to why you dont lose faster at an intake lower than 500, it's because of the law of diminishing returns/starvation mode. It takes calories to digest food. If you aren't digesting any food, your digestive system shuts down and your TDEE drops accordingly. There is no point to eating so little, at all. You may as well eat at least a little.

I won't lose weight eating a thousand calories, I have a thyroid disease and I have to eat less anyway. Lucky for me if I eat very little or fast I get incredibly nauseous and I can go for long periods of time without eating.

it's ok, I have the same problem and I take synthroid, but lately I have been overdosing and taking an extra pill and have been getting the side effects of a hyperthyroid, I am trying to raise my metabolism and get the side effects of weight loss. BTW please don't do this, it is incredibly dangerous to take more meds for your thyroid, In my experience, the side effects won't even let me sleep at night O.O

High restriction still results in weight loss but low restriction works faster. Also, people who eat that low normally just can't handle the thought of eating any higher. Eating disorders aren't usually about weight loss, it's just a symptom of the illness.

That’s not true
In the long run high restrictors get to lower weights because sooner or later the metabolism will slow down AND low restricting causes muscle loss so in the end the bmr is different

Me too! Food just does not do it for me. My best friend now refuses to go out to eat with me anymore. She says people eat to celebrate, have fun, enjoy each other & knowing how I feel about it makes her feel uncomfortable.
