I'm 23, I work at a government job in an assistant position (around 25 hr/week) and do grad school full time. The job is related to my field and it's pretty lenient so I can't complain! The full-time, non assistant positions look difficult though so I'm really nervous for the possible transition later.

I just turned 23 in July. I was a teacher for about .123 seconds for adjudicated youth right out of school (last summer). Figured I needed to do something with my degree even though I wasn't too sure I actually liked the idea of being a classroom teacher .... I didn't! So I quit my job, babysat a rich ass family for a few months and got a job as a library assistant at my public library October of 2018. It's almost a year and I couldn't be any happier in terms of my work. I feel super fulfilled and I'm able to do all the things I wanted to do a teacher when I work with my Teen Advisory Board at the library. The pay isn't too great, but I'm slowly moving up, getting more hours (still part-time), and both my assistant director and executive director have expressed intentions to make me full-time and train me to become director at some point. Now if only I could save up the money to go back to school ....... :-)

It pays tuition and it feels good to have a job that’s a stepping stone into my career.
Not gonna lie it’s kind of a sucky job but the residents keep me going and remind me why I wanna go into nursing to begin with, I love seeing them get better and leave with smiles on their faces.

I'm 23 and I work in the third sector; my job involves minority outreach/engagement, however the job title is wayy too specific so I'd rather not mention it. I've done the maths and the area I cover is approximately 3000 sq miles. I do not have a degree and I work part time; the pay is ~20k for full time, & I'm happy with that!
Planing to go back to uni next year.

28, Scientist
Im actually hiding away in a lab right now
Ayyy, fellow scientist! I just finished my physics PhD last year so I know all about that lab life, what field are you in?
I'm working as a data scientist now, I get to work from home so I don't have to deal with a long commute or people. I suspect most people are probably lovely but a combination of this dude in my lab harassing me for 4 years straight and an abusive relationship made my social anxiety go through the roof. Good times hahaha.

I'm in physical chemistry... and in complete awe with anyone smart enough to be a physicist! Did undergrads in molecular biology and computer science so I reckon when I finally finish my PhD my career might be a lot like yours.
Sorry to hear about your troubles with people... sounds like the perfect storm. For me at least the lab was always kind of a safe space. Congrats on finishing your PhD all the more!

Oh!!! Cool! My lab shared space with some physical chemistry/chemical engineering people. They were awesome, quite literally-- physical chemistry and similar things have always really intimidated me, I ended up gravitating towards physics because it's basically just math in a shiny translucent wrapper. Good luck on your PhD and your work! It sounds like you love what you do and that's super important especially in STEM fields.
Fortunately for the other women in my lab (there were three of us in total) this guy seemed to only be interested in me and various undergrads. I'd honestly rather that be the case than have him bother them as well... I'm getting much better about people, I have amazing friends who have been so wonderful. I owe so much to them. <3
