I wanted to write about my (unexpected) weightloss whilst using 5HTP for non-weightloss reasons.

Please be aware that obviously it varies between person and it is recommended you DO NOT take them if you're on any other medication (I am not).

I fell off the weightloss bandwagon about November due to RL issues and comfort ate... a lot and gained a fair bit of weight (Unsure how much as I don't weigh myself atm)

I originally started to take them because I have sleep issues and read that they help a lot.

Which they worked straight away for, I can now fall asleep quickly and it so nice. :')

I started to use them at Christmas actually so its been about a month. My appetite was normal up until about a week ago and now I'm barely ever hungry.

I eat small because ya know, body needs energy to run and I work full time so need some energy.

This week have eaten like.. 2 sandwiches, a banana and a chocolate bar.

Not because I;m ignoring being hungry...I'm just not hungry.

And I can see I've already lost a fair bit of weight, albeit itll be water weight.

I dont know how long itll last and its probably not doing my body any good.

But these appetite suppressant side affects for a supplement I take for sleeping...aint gonna complain.

Fingers crossed it works for a while.

If anyone has any questions feel free to fire away. :)

How often are you taking it and how much do you take per day? I usually take it at night since I'm prone to night binges and I'm more prone to anxiety at night.

I have been looking all over this site for more experiences/info on 5HTP. Suppresses appetite and helps your mood?! Sounds almost too good to be true. How much have you been taking?

Im literally blown away. Ive been researching 5 HTP since reading this post. It helps with headaches (I have chronic migraines), reduces appetite, helps sleep (I get like 6 hours a night), and helps moodiness? How have I never heard of this before? Kind in shock right now. Ordered some on Amazon right away.

I just bought some because of this review. The weight loss would be great, but I mostly want more than 2.5hr of broken sleep.

It's also not really expensive!! I've been researching it here and it seems like i can buy it without recepy. If I end up buying it I will for sure let you guys knows how it went.
If more people have tried it I'd also love to hear. I'm considering this heavily

I actually took 5-htp for a while because I read that it worked for some overweight or obese people in losing weight, I think I was taking like 300mg a day but I didn't get the appetite suppressant effects so I stopped :(

What dosage are you on?

I'm taking 5-HTP currently in the mornings for depression, I've noticed my appetite is decreasing but that could just be correlation as I've recently gotten back into the restriction mindset (yay!) and when I'm in that mindset, my appetite is very small.

Unsure what dose I'm taking, will update when I find out tomorrow

Edit: I take 2 100 mg pills, so 200 mg daily.

Ok. So, I’ve been taking this for about a week now. I had to learn how to use it.
Some say take it before bed, but I found it was giving me too much energy.
So today, I took one during the day and it’s working so well at keeping me from really going crazy 24/7.
It’s also really keeping the appetite away.
I used to take a lot ephedra back in the day. It really worked at giving me energy and suppressing my appetite.
This works way better than ephedra at keeping me satiated.
I never feel hungry, nor jittery.
I really like it.
Thanks OP!
Idk if I’ll get tired tonight (I hope so), but I’ll keep everyone posted.

Yay, I'm glad it seems to be working for you! I am glad that I'm not having any bad side affects so far
How was your sleep?

the sleep was amazing!
I took 100mg at 3, than then another 100mg an hour or so later (200mg at a time makes me feel kinda sick).
I went about my normal routine and started feeling drowsy around 8.
By 1030pm it was lights out and the sleep was amazing.

Ok. So, I’ve found what works best for me is to take one at breakfast, one at lunch, and maybe another at 6 or 7.
I take 300mg a day.
If I take it after 7 I’ll stay up too late.
It really slashes appetite.

Does anyone know what’s a safe amount to take? I (luckily) don’t think I suffer from depression but I am an occasional mdma user so my serotonin does get depleted sometimes. I’m a bit scared of serotonin syndrome :/

Hello- I have posted on this before. I have taken 5 htp on and off for years. Everyone is different and not everyone will react to it the same. When I first started taking this I took it for mood. I began to notice that it did actually work as an appetite suppressant! I started with 50 dosage until I could no longer find it (3 times a day) when I could only find 100 or 200mg I learned that it made me nauseated.

Pros- loss of appetite, but took about a month supply before I noticed.
- slept a lot, Deep sleep
-weight loss (plus)

Cons- loss of sex drive and most emotions
- I would miss early appointments because I slept through the time.
- very vivid dreams and nightmares
- if I had a headache within the hour of taking a dose it made me nauseated.
- loss of memory, because you are basically relaxed or tired.

Lastly, the benefits meant more to me than the bad side effects because I struggled with depression and that is actually why I began taking it, not for loss of appetite. My first bottle didn’t list that. To this day I always have it in my cabinet. I take it on and off for moods. Why did I stop? I enjoy intimacy with my partner. I have learned a trick or another supplement to overcome it though too. GL

I'd really love to try this but there's a chance it could cause serotonin shock syndrome with my antidepressant. It sounds really good though!
