like I genuinely feel that certain foods and textures cause me insane panic but I also have distorted body image and intentionally starve to lose weight so? where does that put me, lol

Yes, me! “Am I really afraid of this food or am I afraid of the weight gain?” is a question I find myself asking a lot.
Part of me is also quite worried that my anorexia will be found out and nobody will believe my ARFID because they’ll assume it’s a cover or something for my anorexia :(

Yes absolutely.
I have no idea what came first...

Anorexia made me restrict so much- I am now pretty much scared of everything expect for like 5 safe foods.

Even the texture of apples puts me off nowadays...

But my mom told me that I went through weeks of only drinking juice and rejecting any type of food when I was a child (like 5 years old)

... It's so confusing

To a certain extent, I've had ARFID for as long as I can remember but only developed anorexia in high school and now relapse every couple of years. I've found they both certainly feed into one another.

I had similar phases as a child, only accepting fries and processed foods.

Certain food groups trigger my gag reflex, and have for a long time.  It was not until middle school I actively lost weight.

oh yeah, it massively crosses over for me. most of the foods i can't stand are extremely fattening and just generally nasty, but unfortunately it crosses over into some fruits and vegtables (bananas and onions make me gag)

Definitely. I had what would have been considered ARFID as a child and it's definitely intertwined with my current ED presentation of anorexia.

Me too, I'll restrict because I'm scared of weight and have a distorted body image but I'll also restrict because of the taste or texture and they'll overlap a lot

Yeah definitely! It's an under-researched area IMO, I had trouble convincing some of my dieticians that I actually, truly, never liked cheese or bread.

My sister is underweight by her ARFID, unfortunately.

Absolutely! I think I've always had disordered eating (I have always been extremely picky; I have always been grossed out by certain textures; I have always been a "visual eater," to the point that I wouldn't eat things that I normally like if they looked unpresentable; I've never had much of an appetite.) But I think as time went on, I also associated my identity with being skinny and it morphed into anorexia.

Yup. Definitely is more so ARFID for me but when anxiety and depression get bad it is really not a hard leap to go into other ED territories (more of a "barely have to tiptoe over the line" really).
