Someone, give me some good news!

I've been on the hunt for an acceptable vegan cheese for over a decade, with...yeah I'd say about zero success.

I've seen that there's a few cheeses available in the US that look like they may be quite good, but I'm in Australia so the picking are slim!

Tell me your secrets!  Give me your cheese reccommendations.  Hell, I'll find a way to get a hold of it if it's worth it!

I find I keep coming across that sort of bitter, gritty, or relatively tasteless, nothing like cheese taste and I worry this is all there will ever be :(

You can make vegan melted nacho cheese and cottage cheese by blending stuff together (google for recipes).

It’s fairly simple but of course it’s not the same and if you want to use it in a sand which melted nacho cheese might not be ideal.

But it’s perfect for Mac n cheese or on pizza

I second these! Don't know if you can get them in Australia. They taste a little like that plastic burger cheese but less fake?

Since lockdown I have been trying local vegan businesses - these are really good because no two taste the same, and you know pretty much exactly what goes into them/where they come from.

Not sure if you have it but Chao brand cheese slices are pretty good.

Violife is the best imo! It's sooo Creamy when it melts and it tastes just as tasty raw. I usually put two slices in a sandwich with tomato and it's heaven.

Even my non vegan family prefer Violife over real cheese.

CHAO tomato cayenne

So Delicious cheddar jack shreds (just like real cheddar jack shreds perfect for tacos)

Anything from Miyokos

Daiya is mediocre, ill have their mozz shreds sometimes tho

not sure if any of these are available in Australia !

I am huge fan of Nature&Mooi 'original' cheeses (280 cal/100g), after that Violife prosciano wedge (279 cal/100g)

violife and chao are the best. violife has a great feta as well. i also really like daiya because it was the only kind available for years. even though there are better vegan cheeses now, i still crave daiya cheddar shreds sometimes. their cutting board versions are more omni approved.

Applewood smoked cheese if you can get it. But I like violife salad cheese and the slices too.

I love the brand sheese that you can get from woolies. The mature aged cheddar is my favourite, it can taste a little strong but it tastes good to me - I love having it with cruskits, hummus, tomato + salt and pepper. For a mozzarella I prefer bio shred but the sheese brand melts better

idk if its in australia but for anything you’d want cream cheese in kite hill is my fav! it’s almond milk cultured like traditional cream cheese so no weird ingredients which is important to me, a lot of imitation stuff tastes really processed imo. they also make a ricotta that’s really good but the everything bagel cream cheese is the best for dipping stuff into

there is no one else left in wide Troy who is gentle or kind to me. they all shudder at me.
like a shadow, i am and i am not.

Maybe it's just me, but I find chao to be waayyy too creamy and nutty tasting. Like I almost gagged trying to eat it and I generally like most cheeses.

Miyoko's I really like because it's palm oil free, also Violife. I haven't tried Chao yet.

Ah I haven't seen any violife in Australia!

I do like Sheese as well though, and Miyoko's is great (although I don't see it around much).

If you have a Harris Farm near you, they often have a big range of vegan cheeses, they stock a lot of The Vegan Dairy cheese. i love their ash and dill chevre.
