i'm thinking of starting to plan out my meals (time, calories, etc. included) in hopes that i could stop overeating!! i've done it a few times before and my experience was so weird sdkjsfgh 


it didn't even feel like i was me? i felt like i was a mom picking out her daughter's lunch for the day and it was so comforting,,, but then again maybe that's an internalized issue i have (omg bye i digress)


does anyone else do this and succeed at staying at their cal limit bc of it?

I did meal planning for quite a while and should get back into it. I usually planned on Friday and did the grocery shopping on Saturday. I only had at home what I needed according to my plan.

yes, kinda obsessively actually lmao. i plan everything out in mfp 4 days to 1 week in advance before i eat it. and yes, it's probably the only reason i can stay in my cal limit pretty easily!


i don't actually meal plan in the sense of pre-making all of my food, but just the tracking aspect so i know how many calories i'm gonna eat on the day before i even start the day

I do but not for all meals. When everything is planned in advance the little rebel comes out and I eat anything but the plan lmao. I found that a rigid plan for breakfast and lunch and suggested plan for afternoon snack is good. Dinner is for cravings within my calorie budget.

I probably spend 90% of my time planning meals/making recipes. It really does help stay within my limit and helps with any food waste to. I spend the whole week making meal plans for the next week so on Sunday when I grocery shop I’m getting only the exact amount of food I will and am allowed to eat.

in my own experience, “rough” planning of meals is ideal for me (a bunch of meals to choose from for example) but to strictly meal plan and decide that i’ll have something tomorrow makes me uncomfortable bc if i want to eat something else that day i’ll be rlly upset lmao

Yep, I know exactly what time I’ll eat at and what I’m going to eat as it causes less anxiety for me personally!

I pretty much do OMAD and I plan what we're going to have for dinner every night, and my fiance loves to be the cook, and he'll make whatever I ask because he doesn't like to be the one to decide what we eat- so it's a win/win situation for me.

Yeah, I spend a lot of time meal-planning. Especially now that I keep track of my own groceries, so I can plan days in advanced, play around with different combinations and recipes, prioritize food in order of shelf life (veggies etc). It definitely helps a shit ton with sticking to my calorie limit. No impromptu eating or anything, which I used to have trouble with in earlier cycles.

I will say that the more I've done it, the more obsessive I've become, so that's something to think about. I spend hours thinking about it and organizing shit and recalculating. Personally though, I do find it comforting/reassuring. Exciting, even, in a weird way.

Kind of? I have 5 or 6 go to meals that I always eat and I've measured out the calories of so I can just mix and match them. I should probably start planning so I can get more variety though...

I do enjoy planning my meals, however, it can sometimes lead into binge episodes for me because I feel restricted knowing I can’t have anything else. I only plan and buy certain foods, i.e. low fat yoghurt, low calorie soup, so I will eat what I crave from what I have. I still track everything I eat and the time, so when I need to keep constantly updating my notes, it’s easier to see if it’s ‘too much’, or if I have a selection of soups I can decide if I want to spend the extra 70 odd so calories on a different type of soup, or if I feel like i’ll want to snack later, I’ll pick the lesser calorie soup, and use that additional 70 on a pot of low fat yoghurt instead later.

Yes, even if it’s just soup or cheese and crackers. I plan exactly what I will eat, how many calories I want to use for that meal, and when I’ll eat it. It’s a huge production lol

It’s second nature now to put in all my meals and food measurements in MFP before bed each night, then change my mind 10x the following day.
