This isn’t really ed related but I don’t know where else to ask. My baby is currently 1mo & I stopped breastfeeding about 2 weeks ago. I changed my mind and want to start again. I was wondering if anyone else has experience with relactation and can give any tips/advice. I’m in the US so medication for it isn’t an option. I’m still producing something, just not enough to get more than drops when I pump but can hand express a lot more, maybe 1/2-1oz total. So far the plan is to power pump 2x a day & also pump every 2 hours during the day for 5-10 minutes each breast after latching baby for as long as he’ll stay latched each side. Is there anything else I can do?

Do you have a pumping schedule? I realized after I stopped that my supply would come in at the same time each evening (baby’s dinner time).

Maybe trying to pump every day around the same time may help?

I hear fenugreek helps. Not sure if it’s true. Old ladies say beer, I think it’s the yeast...they include that in the lactation cookies. (Obviously the women did not give that milk to the baby. It was dumped. But she was someone who exclusively breastfed.) My insurance & hospital had lactation consultants, many pediatricians also are pro breastfeeding & can give you actual solid advice. Bet they would even if it’s at your baby’s well check appt on their state funded insurance. My kids Ped caught my post partum pre eclampsia, & made me continue to monitor my HR/BP & promise to call my dr if it reached a certain point. She saved my life. If your ped cannot help, I bet they can point you to someone who can!

Let the baby latch! Pumping and expressing will not get nearly as much out as a well latched baby! Try La Leeche League resources, they are free and offer great advice. Good luck!

This, and make sure you pump after every feeding. Higher demand = higher supply.
