this is fucking bullshit. i have bulimia, orthorexia and arfid. the kind where u think ur allergic to a ton of shit.
i think i'm allergic to most fruits. so much to the fact where i basically have panic attacks when they are near me. i've always had a great radar for them... except when they were playing my food they gave me a rasin granola bar instead of a chocolate one.
i then had a panic attack and thought i was going to fall over dead.
i then go to my therapist (keep in mind i'm in residential for my ed) and he says that he has never hear of this type of ed.
YOU ARE A EATING DISORDER THERAPIST. you should know what a fucking ed is. and all of the types. he said the only arfid that he's heard of is the one to do with texture and taste.
fucking idiot. one google can tell me the three types of arfid.

I actually didn't know about the three types of ARFID, so thanks for posting this. (It's stupid that a professional wouldn't know it even look into it before dismissing you, obviously.) I've got some food fears based in the idea that certain foods will harm me (because idk), so I can understand where you're coming from a bit.

It could be because bulimics and orthos can have adversions to food anyway and fears around certain food

Im certainly not saying hes right at all BUT I do know of some anorexics/bulimics who thought they had afrid at one point because of their food adversions but ended up not

So he may be thinking youre like that due to some other patients being that way historically.

If you know for certain you have it on top of your other stuff I know it sucks Ive had invalidating therapists with trauma in the past, Id say try to push this to the back of your head. This therapist now may not see what youre seeing, but in the future someone will eventually spot it! I know thats difficult to do but I suppose its all I can advise, hang in there xx

Oh and the texture and taste comment is SO ignorant on his part. People with afrid have fears around particular foods (like you described) but when asked the REASONS they give are OFTEN texture and taste, until the therapist digs deeper and finds out when the adversion started, usually a traumatic memory.

I really hate it when therapists oversimplify like this. That was a very ignorant comment from him

I don't have an arfid, just came here to say I'm sorry that your therapist was ignorant and invalidating your ED. You know yourself better than him. Just because he is a therapist, doesn't mean he is (always) right.
