I just wouldn’t eat lmao. Who gives a fuck if they’re judging you? I don’t think it’s “unprofessional” at all not to eat. You could just bring some small meals/snacks with you instead & say you’re on a diet. I used to not eat the lunches my work provided. I don’t really care if everyone thinks I’m weird or whatever.

Thank you all so much!

The best excuse is to say you are really fussy. I really am. I won’t eat most foods - I eat like an autistic toddler and I have always done so.
I say I have Arfid (which I do) which is a restrictive eating disorder without the emotional baggage.
It means I get away with saying I won’t eat white bread, mayonnaise, butter, most fruits and vegetables, red meat, anything too chewy, slimy, crumbly, sour, sweet, ... or anything that looks a funny shape, size, colour etc.

To work colleagues it’s the best cover ever!

This is an excellent idea actually, I think saying my diagnosis is ARFID would carry less stigma than anorexia or bulimia. And I think the people would be really quite nice about it and wouldn't gossip about ARFID.

Thank you for your advice, and I hope things get easier for you soon

See if they can do a keto or paleo option!

I'm not sure if they can but worth a shot! Thank you, I do think keto or paleo feels safer.

I have coeliac disease and am vegan. Ask if they have a gluten free vegan option? 9/10 it’ll be a salad or soup.

Then the other thing that I do in these sorts of situations is use lunch as a networking opportunity. Xx chat to people a lot, move around the tables. Be the perfect bubbly professional who is just soooo interested in talking about the field that no one notices how little they eat

I worry that they'll just give me gluten free bread, which in my ED head is as carbohydrate problematic as the rest.

But thank you for this reminder, I really do believe that I can try to use personality to overshadow the food issues. In the end, who cares if someone isn't eating bread if they're diligent and friendly?

I just say i can't eat grains dairy and eggs.

Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

Your thing about the grains is quite genius. I've literally just emailed them to say that I can't do grains. They've asked if I mean gluten free, by which I mean... kinda more like paleo, but I'm hoping that this doesn't come across as too weird or picky but it is what it is.

True! I guess so long as I'm eating something, that's far less weird and suspicious than not eating at all.

If complete denial isnt an option i would secret away bites little by little

And slather on lots of conversation to distract! Thank you for your input

More bread that I ate in IP today!

Instead of cereal, I tried toast for breakfast to practice:

Believe me when I say that this looks much healthier than the things they have given me in IP's through the years. I swear to god they are idiots, they try to up someone's weight as fast as they can so ''they take the person out of danger'' and they would give me the most idiotic things like i.e thick milkshakes full with ice cream. My friends and my family have done a much better job in weight-restoring me through the years than all of my idiotic medical teams. I am in Europe, i dont know if in America is better when it comes to IP foods

Whenever I’ve done stuff like that I’ve just had coffee or whatever in the morning and nobody’s ever raised a brow at it. When work has provided lunch the wraps/sandwiches have always been cut in half with salad or fruit/veggie options for sides. If you want to fly under the radar just have half a sandwich and graze on salad/veggies. I usually eat like half the sandwich and then slowly eat my veggies while people are chatting or whatever. If you’re eating the whole time they don’t really notice if you don’t finish your half of a sandwich lol

You could say you're gluten free. That takes away most bread options. Then maybe you can just have a salad or tell them you'll bring your own food.

Thank you all so much!

gluten allergy
ez

I worry sometimes about the gluten-free bread, they always seem to have it! But I would hope they make a salad instead.

say you're gluten free, paleo, vegan :')?

I wonder whether catering people will accommodate for paleo? That would be super convenient and much safer!

I don't eat meat
Gluten excuse

Both are good ideas, thank you for your help!

Absolutely. We have grilled salmon, protein balls, quinoa, wholemeal bread and natural yoghurt. I'm from Australia actually! If you're interested to see what they do here you can check out my accountability!

I'll definitely graze and talk, that'll be my key strategy I think!

Thank you for taking the time to answer, I really appreciate it!

Nope, just the salad that comes in the sandwich. I’m on the refeeding plan so I don’t need a snack (flavoured yoghurt, muesli bar or flavoured milk) but as you progress through the program you can plate your own salad, protein and bread with butter.

It was!

Also they keep giving me gluten free sandwiches and wraps, when I said grain free.

I just tell people I’m going to check out the sponsor stalls and disappear during lunch.
