"Silent All These Years" by Tori Amos always hits so close to home! It's so beautifully written & well composed. "Someone in the Dark" by MJ is also a really sentimental one to me.

It may sound corny but Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. The entire Downward Spiral album gets to me and I only listen to it when I’m in a real pit but Hurt especially has some quality about it that I associate with reaching rock bottom. It’s essentially about that too.

melanie martinez has helped me endlessly since 2014, all of her songs have been the only thing i have had in so many situations over the years, i feel rlly connected to her. when orange juice came out i thought that was a genuine sign for me to get help but i shit myself @ the doctors and kept lying and slipping up and it was such a mess i honestly think i blacked out

Regarding history...Drowning Lessons by MCR (or tbh most of Bullets album); Silverstein - My Heroine was my 'dark' song.

Longterm though I think probs like a lot of songs by The Byrds, Heroes by Bowie, Mr Brightside, and a lot of pop punk in general.

have you had enough, or have you become

the character that you portray?

Ease Up Kid by Hippo Campus

TW but also a weird one that doesn't really man a lot to me, but I Think I'm Going To KM by Elton John. I think it's such an interesting song, it portrays that feeling of "I care" but also "I don't care" at the same time.

TW if you choose to listen to it.

You are enough. You are more than enough. It is unbelievable how enough you are.

Dunkelheit by Burzum. The first time I heard that song, it really changed my life. I had already been into black metal for a while, but I was mostly listening to death metal. Then when I heard that song, I started exploring more black metal. Now it's my absolute favorite subgenre. It also inspired me to start learning Russian, because I really like Russian black metal, but many of the bands only give information in Russian.

It's funny how one extremely weird Norwegian guy managed to set me on the path to learning Russian.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd

"So, so you think you can tell heaven from hell?
Blue skies from pain?"

First few lines made me realize I was isolating myself from others due to an ED, that I was most likely depressed, hated myself and had just been denying it to my self. I couldn't tell what was normal anymore or see beauty in things.

"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year"

These lines I interpret as two versions of myself: the self I want to be and the sad, disordered self that I feel I am stuck in. I have phases where I am one or the other. But most often I feel like the latter person and it's not me. I need to get out of that fishbowl, because I'm keeping myself ill.

war all the time by Thursday. part of it talks about a boy who died by falling off the palisades cliffs (accidentally) but jumping from the palisades has always been the way I've imagined I'd commit suicide (recently decided I'm never gonna do that and am no longer allowing myself to consider it an option. BUT HELL IF IT DOESN'T MAKE FOR A COOL USERNAME). war all the time also just hits bc Thursday is a very important band for me, being from NJ and being depressed, and this was the song that got me into them. s2g it plays in my head everytime I cross the bridge into nyc lol. Turnpike Divides by Thursday hits even harder but it's more visceral so I don't have a clear cut explanation for why. again just.hits
