has anyone ever tried adding ground flaxseeds into protein shakes? I have a whole kilo of protein powder that has the grossest consistency ever when mixed with fluids so I'm wondering if it'd work to make the consistency a little more thick and smoothie like...

I tried adding 1 tbsp to a smoothie in my NutriBullet today, with just a bit of soy protein isolate. It was decent :)

Get the cheapest coffee grinder and just grind them.

If you mix them with Orange juice, the acid in the juice turns them to sludge almost immediately.

If you mix them with water, that doesn't happen.

Ether way, I just glug them down in one go.  Their fiber feeds gut bacteria, which apparently is the main way they are good for you.

But they keep you regular too.

I use a teaspoon or two of ground flaxseed in my greek yogurt! I like how it thickens the texture of it just enough. I've also used it in a vegan pumpkin pie recipe (not vegan, but a friend of a friend is).

I do that and although the taste is awesome, they never really mix in well for me (especially when I make the shake with water). They just kinda sink to the bottom of it...

Yeah, I'm vegan so I've used them in a lot of baking. I tend to only use them ground though because when they're whole they can pass through your digestive system without really being broken down.

I use them in smoothies, but for some reason the little bits do NOT want to come off the sides of my blender. I mean, like I have to scrape them off with my nails when I'm washing it after. I like them a lot though.

yes, just mix in a blender and you get the creamiest, thickest shake. I'm not too keen on the taste of flax so I usually add a few frozen berries but somehow frozen kale works too.

I also like making flax eggs to use in recipes, or adding them as a topping to yogurt bowls, smoothie bowls, etc. It lets me say that I got my fats in while having only 35 calories per tablespoon, which is pretty low for a healthy fat.
