B e w a r e   o f  t h e  S h a d o w s

Beware of the shadows, they’ll scare you off you know.

They’re big and scary and look just like you.

But they’re not you, or are they? Well I don’t Know.

But beware of the shadows, they’ll scare you off you know.

*This was the first poem I ever wrote. I think I was 4 at the time.

White Sepulchres

Does it not sadness bring to my innocent soul when I see the grass grow so green,

In the field where the bodies of the dead lie in wait

I search for them but I cannot succeed for what chance do I have of finding them when I cannot yet find myself?

But still I search because I too am lost and they follow me because they know I am their only chance to escape their eternal torment.

I lie in a bed alone at night yet cannot sleep till the world is light.

The swirling figures in the dark though invisible seem to make the silence speak.

I feel fear which causes me to remember the pain I locked inside and the hurt and the loneliness, the craving for belonging.

I know that they feel it too. Hence why they are attracted to me

We bond together with sinew.

I share an agony felt deep inside the tombs that lie within.

So when I walk alone past the graves in the field where the grass grows evergreen and the white roses are pretty and pure and trees grow strong and tall,

White sepulchres that is all.

I know I am slipping into the valley of the dead and it feels so sad because I feel the same as them.

Every time I feel too much I hear their screams.

I feel guilty.

What right do I have to be alive when I feel just as lonesome and dead inside?

The View from the Upstairs Patio

All those lights, all those people,

Could any of them love me?

The view from the upstairs patio

So beautiful yet so very sad

What have I done in my short life that is so bad as to deserve this loneliness.

I am surrounded by the masses, but still I am alone.

And standing there on my own, I start to wonder, and stare to the ground.

If I jumped would it make a loud sound?

So as to wake people from their slumber-

Or would they still lay silent and sleep?

And my neighbours, in the morning, if they found me, on their doorways, drenched in blood-they would surely stare-but would they care?

The moths dance in the fairy lights.

If those fairies were real would they take me with them to their land and play with me?

If I were a moth would those moths dance with me?

All those lights, all those people,

But will any of them ever love me?

The Man Who Lived in the Moon

There was a man who lived in the moon and I knew him very well.

I used to sit beside him and listen to the stories he would tell.

One great day he took me to the core of that great celestial rock where he abode.

Then suddenly I knew there was truth in all the stories that he told.

I stayed with him for three years, three days and three nights.

Then once more I took flight.

I decided to go back home.

I left the man in the moon well alone.

But still he watched over me each and every night.

He had a strange and sinister sight.

He could see through the walls of the moon.

He could choose and find which victim he picked to lose their mind.

In this case his victim was me.

But he was still my friend and he knew this madness made me truly happy.

The Eggs

The eggs have been waiting since the morning hour

Waiting high up in the broken tower

Waiting for someone to arrive

Waiting for someone who’s alive

All the people there are dead

Died while sleeping in their bed

The eggs will be left well alone

Left till they have dried to the bone

Human

From within the darkness came a spell of words that did so entice my impressionable soul.

From within the darkness walked a shadow.

An empty life

A consciousness free of conscience

That now walks among us

From inside a bubble of blackness popped a seed into our world.

A seed that grew into our minds

A seed that we planted

From the hands of men came the silver screen.

From our womb we bore pure evil.

A being with no concept of beauty or love

As we marvelled at our creation it scoffed at our stupidity.

As we taught it to follow our commands, it trained us to become compliant and dependent and rendered us useless.

As we tried to make it more like us, it made us more machine.

We fed on it mindlessly, like cows to grass, and let it devour our humanity.

Encased within my heart was a memory long forgotten.

A sacred garden, guarded by thick nettles and ivy

As I stared into the silver screen, I started to see a screen not of silver but of black.

I realized the truth I had been programmed to ignore.

I stared out into the real world and my heart saw, and I remembered……….

What it meant to be human.

Bittersweet

Rules are there to be broken.

Plans are there to be scrapped.

Dreams are there so that they never come true,

That is the way of life perhaps.

Words are there to be spoken.

Bittersweet are the ones which are not.

A wish made that didn’t come true.

All of us broken-hearted people that life long forgot

Dreams are there to pose the illusion,

That the candle of hope is still a-lit

Love is there as your last false hope,

A promise you made to provide yourself a reason to live.

Time is but an instant.

Always passing by,

Always leaving you behind

Two strings stretched and stressed.

Consequences of actions none could have guessed.

The tale of many a broken heart

By the arrow of time, two lovers drawn apart

Sadness is there as a comfort,

When you finally face the truth you couldn’t bear to face.

The fallen angel

The demonized saint

The silent saviour

The host of times so bleak

The moment you turn away from the world,

To let a tear wander down your cheek.

Melancholy afternoons

Nature’s intricate architecture,

Beautiful trees hanging above the hidden tombs.

Lurking souls watch strangers passing by.

Heavy hearts sunken eyes

They have nothing left to do but cry.

A consensus held among them,

The same residual question

Why?

The heart on your sleeve is there to be broken.

All is there so that all can be lost.

When your most sacred dreams turn to nightmares

When you reach The End

The godforsaken End

You look back.

All you can do is remember, it seems all is lost.

You realize the life you thought yourself

Entitled to was no more than a con

All you have left is a memory.

Bittersweet

The story of a life and love long gone.

The Soliloquy of a Warrior

I am not a flame but a blaze

A bird free in the sky

Your tyrants, they can throw stones at me

But my spirit will never die.

I am not a horse but a stallion

A phoenix rising from the fire

Even if fiends pursue me till the end

I will not sink into the mire.

Catch me in your net and cage me

Taunt me day and night

Your words they do not faze me

Till the end I shall fight.

My mind you cannot change

I am set in stone

I am not a sheep, I will not follow you

Even if it means I walk alone.

First finger

Second finger

Third finger

Fourth finger

Fifth finger

Five fingers free

Where is the fire that burns in the tree?

Where is the liar that claimed to be me?

Am I just a pariah or am I truly free?

The first man told me that he was dead

The second man told me he lived in my head

The third man was an older image of me

He came out of the fire and climbed down from the tree

He shared with me a secret

In fact he shared three

There is no fire

There is not tree

There is only me

Black cats

Top hats

Squeaky rats

Quiet bats

Fancy that

Fancy that I should live in the sky and only ever come down at midnight

You might think it peculiar for someone to despise

Figures clothed in light

Where darkness dwells there drags a spell of passion in the night

If you try with all your might

Find the puzzle piece that fits in every slot

The key that turns to every lock

You will surely lose the plot

With wisdom comes great suffering

To which nothing can compare

There is grave danger ahead, please beware

Do not trust he who speaks in tongues

He never lies, he does no wrong

He simply shapes the truth to fit in every box, in every pit

Do not recite his magic spell

Do not fall down the wishing well

Or forever there you will dwell

Down I fell

I said the spell

I found the missing puzzle piece

I found the lock that fit my key

I opened the door

There was only me

There was nothing more

I stood in the doorway and watched my own self standing

Now I understood the price you pay for understanding

Sixth finger

Seventh finger

Eighth finger

Ninth finger

Tenth finger

Ten fingers free

There is no door

There is no key

There is only me

Cordracks

Cordracks is the ties that bind

He’ll tie the knot so you will find

Or cut the cord leave you behind

Cordracks is the ties that bind

Time to date and name to face and purpose to place

Cordracks is the one that bars

Anything under the stars

Tie the knot and you will know

Or cut the cord and he will go
