I can't even drink 2 beers or a glass of wine...I get wasted in about 15 minutes. It's ridiculous! Does this happen to everyone?

I read somewhere that it's harder to metabolize alcohol on a ketogenic diet, but I'm under the table in a matter of minutes.

I'm usually eating dinner when I have the drinks...I like to go eat at my friend's house, do a bit of grilling, but one beer and I'm woozy...2 and I just gotta go home....makes me a ton of fun.

it depends on the alcohol, some types will stop ketosis.

it's not really the alcohol technically it's the type of drink.. spirits don't contain carbs on their own but when mixed with sugary ingredients they do. things like beer/lager are made from grains so again it's going to contain carbs. wine can also be a problem depending on the type. if someone is only having a small amount then that's one thing but most people drink to get drunk.

Yes I agree when I used to drink vodka I could have a triple with Pepsi max & still be in ketosis, but Malibu and pineapple forget it lol.

Yeah, my only alcohol I'll consume is a Woodford bourbon over ice with a splash of diet coke...or Michelob Ultra...sometimes an Amstel light. I don't drink that often...maybe 2 times a month if that. Literally...the parties over for me once I have had 2 drinks. I think I just can't metabolize it any more...ketosis and alcohol put me to bed.

(Love the sweet drinks, but no pina coladas for me! ;))

There is a lot of anecdotal evidence out there saying keto makes you more of a light weight overall. Maybe it’s as was suggested above that there is less food in your stomach overall. Maybe it’s because ketones and glucose metabolize differently in the body.

But, I’ve actually found the opposite is true for me when I drink keto friendly alcohol. If I drink wine or something that bumps me out of keto I get drunk way too fast and am more likely to black out. But, if I stay in keto with just drinking gin with zero tonic or vodka with Sprite Zero for some reason I can drink a lot more liquor than when I’m not in keto.

Whenever I’m doing a keto diet I get drunker faster. U def gotta be careful cuz there were times I drank wayyyyy toooooo much and the next day I would be puking for hours straight even when I had nothing to throw up. Totally awful. Almost have gotten to the point where I thought I was gonna have to go to the hospital because it would just not stop. I think your body needs some carbs to help absorb the alcohol or something, but there’s threads on Reddit where ppl talk about how u basically need to relearn how to drink while in ketosis. It’s kinda like when u first ever start drinking and u don’t know ur limit. Not good if u are a binge drinker!

I unfortunately am super tolerant to booze, so ketosis does help me feel something without having to down an entire bottle of wine.

There is definitely a connection between being in ketosis and making you a lightweight for alcohol. I've done the keto diet two different times for over 3 months each time and not having carbs in my system really made the alcohol kick in heavy. Also: Smirnoff makes sugarfree vodka flavors, mix with diet sprite/7up is an awesome summer drink, OR brut champagne with zero sugar lemonade is super yummy!

i was on strict keto diet (Atkins) and used to drink hard alcohol

didn't get drunk any faster

had to pass on beer and tastier drinks though

it didn't hurt that i was having a nice dinner of beef and eggs before drinking, either

I've heard that keto can lower your alcohol tolerance so I think it might be that?
