Hey fam,

I'm having a bit of a rough time where I can't really decide whether to commit to a keto diet or flat out restriction. I find i seesaw between the two based on how badly I want to lose weight and obviously, this is super self-sabotaging and you can't really do both well. I was curious, what was your experience with keto vs overall restriction? Did you lose more weight with one over the other? Ty <3

I used to do both.

I can't really recommend  that. I prefer doing keto without calorie restriction and then finding yourself in a calorie deficit as a result of increased satiety, rather than counting calories and restricting them on purpose even when you might still be hungry sometimes.

This has been a long time issue of mine lmao. I am thinking I prefer restricting because for me it’s so hard to stay under a certain limit doing keto. And it’s such a fine line for me to easily cross into just eating fatty shit then bam all of a sudden I’m outta control. It’s a good diet I think if ur not super restrictive and for me it was fun to cook stuff for me and my bf when we would be keto. I was more “lazy keto”, fuck tracking macros and shit. Now I’m trying to get back to a more plant based diet, feeling guilty about all the meat I ate, but I also try to keep it lower carb and low sugar.

Lost about the same. With moderate to heavy restricting you go into ketosis even if all you eat is carbs 😅

I used to do calorie restriction for a very long time ended up diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and that wasn’t even the real problem because after anorexia i struggled really hard with eating disorders either binge eating or bulimia, it definitely wasn’t easy and i came to realize that the main culprit was how i severely restricted my calories. I would go for a couple of weeks eating about 300 calories a day and then I wasn’t even losing weight, i start to have cravings i end up binge eating as a result my body would fill up with water and i would even gain the fat real quick which is known as metabolic adaptation, However when i started doing keto my cravings decreased much, i feel like i’m eating enough food to be healthy and not just lose weight, i have mental clarity, i stopped having binge eating episodes and seriously i have never felt better. so yeah definitely I would recommend keto even though sometimes it may be difficult but consider keto substitutes to make keto desserts for example it helped my a lot!

I'm struggling with this myself. It's a lot harder for me to be in a calorie deficit while doing keto. I'm switching back to focusing just on restriction, while still keeping things low-ish carb.

I did both. Restricted carbs and counted calories/ate in a deficit. It works well imo. Calorie deficit is essential for weight loss so it’s the most important, restricting carbs/keto can help you reach that goal because of appetite suppression

I’m bulimic tho so that’s why I have to count calories or else I might binge because my hunger cues are messed up, but I guess you could do keto without counting as long as you follow your hunger cues

Both; high restrict ~900 for the deficit, Keto to keep myself satiated and binge free.

I am doing both. Less than 800cals and under 20g carbs. I am also vegetarian. The hardest bit is the fat intake. I just can’t eat the fat. What I am trying is to take MCT powder but only 10g. Any more and I panic. Plus I take it in the morning. If I took it in the evening, I’d probably purge.

It is working for now but every morning, I lay awake in bed panicking that the number on the scale might have gone up.

keto itself seems to put me into the restriction category without trying. I know my body will look a lot worse if I just restrict, I hate being skinnyfat.

Cico still applies. Some people can't overeat while on keto and so, they don't need to count calories. Some do still overeat and absolutely keed to count calories and macros.
