I hate hearing this, it makes me feel invalid and immature. Please comment if you are over the age of 21. You dont have to comment your age if you dont want to, just that you are older. I just turned 22 and i genuinely dont know if anyone on here is also older

I’m 25. And I highly doubt they’re on this site but the oldest person I know with anorexia is in their 50s.

You’re not alone, they’re are plentyyyyy of adults in here. Sad fact but true.

Also 22. There’s a lot of people older than that here and a very wide range of ages.

i am under 21 but i agree, that statement is completely bullshit and very invalidating. i am sorry that you have to be told this. i know for a fact that there’s many members over 21. in fact, i think a lot of the user base is over 20 years old. i’ve seen people as old as 50 years old on here. the statement ‘anorexia is for teenagers’ implies that it’s just some dumb vanity thing that you can easily get over when you find out that there’s more to life than your appearance. which isn’t true, because eating disorders are about anything but being vain. they’re such a complex illness which you can develop at any age, because being older doesn’t prevent you from being mentally ill. yes, you may practise harm reduction because you’re not a teenager with no responsibilities and you need to keep up a semblance of a semi normal life, but that does not make you any less sick than the rest of us. i promise you

I'm 36.

I know people on this site in their 40s and 50s.

It's definitely not just a teenage thing.

Thats one of those stupid myths like 'boys don't get anorexia' *major eye roll*

High restricting is the way for me because slow and steady wins the race. As far as I'm concerned, as long as you end the day on a calorie deficit, you have won.

Height: 5 foot 7 / 171cms,
Highest Weight: 180 pounds / 82 kgs, (BMI 28.0)
Lowest Weight: 85 pounds / 39 kgs, (BMI 13.3)

ULTIMATE GOAL WEIGHT (again): 85 pounds / 39 kgs OR LOWER!!!

Thank you. Its crazy how a time limit gets put on it, that's not how it works. People are soo narrow minded when it comes to things that they have not experienced. I literally get berated for having social anxiety, I get told to grow up and face it like everyone else has to. And i do, i dont make my problem anyone elses problem but i still get judged for it.

I actually hate that stigma !!.. Your race, age, or gender does not dictate what struggles you get stuck with.

It is nice, not that my misery enjoys company or anything haha but just knowing you are not alone makes a person feel better

Teenagers age. Unless teenagers with AN spontaneously recover by their birthdays when they turn into adults or die from their disorder, it is only logical that not only teenagers have that disorder.

I'm an adult and I wish AN had left me in peace once I became an adult.

I'm 22. I know of many people older than me with severe eating disorders but sometimes I can't help but feel like it's partly seen as something that indicates I'm mentally immature or incompetent at life or deal with emotions like a child. I hate that and don't want anyone to think that. I think it's a subtle stigma attached that people tend not to discuss.

I'm under 21, but I'm a 20 year old, and I'm a guy. so yeah, I fucking hate the stereotype that it's for tween girls. Chronic eating disorders half the time start before youre a teen and last long after

i am only 16 but literally anybody who tells you “(insert activity) is for (insert age)” or “you’re too old for that!” is bullshit and you should block them out.

I have been in recovery for a while. I am mostly recovered - I can handle most things but please just be kind ^^
I still have some bad habits, like bingeing and restricting, but I am actively trying to be better.
