A Friend's 15 Keys

Key 1

Detect / Eject

 

success in fasting is almost entirely mental.

any thought in your mind, that is counterproductive &/or threatening to your fast, needs to be detected as fast as possible, & ejected from your mind as fast as possible.

the thought may be cravings, a bullshit excuse to quit the fast, even people can be counterproductive &/or threatening to your fast.

never allow these thoughts to exist in your mind.

because it will spread throughout your thoughts & mind like a virus, & become catastrophic to the achievement of your goal.

 

be aware & on alert of what is going on in your mind, many of these thoughts begin in stealth or disguise.

this skill set of cognitive control, as it develops over time, can be applied to other areas of your life to help you achieve high level goals.

 

life is war, your mind is 1st weapon.

how strong is your mind?

Key 2

Never Make The Same Mistake Twice

 

Learn from your failures, for there will be many.

failures are lessons, and Knowledge is Power.

the strongest use of that power, is to never make the same mistake twice.

fasting, or life.

Remember Your Hate / Remember Your Pain

 

remember that hate of yourself?

remember that hate of your weight?

remember that hate of your body?

remember that hate of failing weight loss goals?

remember that hate & use it.

remember it when your fasting, to help remind you why it's so important to keep fighting through the pain.

hate & pain are powerful tools, use them to your advantage.

 

in life, there are no better teachers than hate & pain.

in time, whether you like it or not, you will learn this.

Key 4

Play The Tape

 

so your thinking about quitting your fast, play that future version of your life out in your mind.

witness your anger at yourself because you made that decision to quit.

feel those emotions of failure.

live that out first, in your mind, before you quit.

do this over & over.

Key 5

Rationality Shifts

 

prepare for shifts in rationality.

your mind will play tricks on you.

it will offer you terrific excuses to quit the fast.

it will trick you with new rationalizations of why the fast you are running is not worth it, or that it is a horrible idea for some good reason.

 

stand your ground.

Key 6

Only Days Matter

 

weight means nothing, only days matter.

if you need to see your weight going down each day & you invest into that mentally & emotionally, you are setting yourself up for more pain & possibly failure.

only focus on getting through the day your in.

focus on accomplishing days, not accomplishing numbers.

your weight will do all kinds of tricks & fluctuations, don't let it beat you.

 

control your focus.

Key 7

Hell Week

 

the first 12 days of of the fast is hell.

cravings, hunger, depression & the never ending search for desperate excuses to quit are boiling hot in the 1st week.

generally after 12 days, things get 10x easier.

 

be prepared for this.

Key 8

Stress Triggers

 

stress weakens resolve.

while fasting, eliminate as much stress from your life as you can.

physical / mental / emotional.

Key 9

Weigh-in Danger

 

weigh-ins can be dangerous.
the thing about weigh-ins, is water.
water retention swings are constant, and water weighs a lot.

a little bit of water weighs a lot, and can easily throw your weight numbers all over the place.

over time, you will witness slight weight gains from time to time, even in a 0 calorie fast, due to water weight fluctuations.

 

doing a monday weekly weigh-in is a really good idea to consider.

daily weigh-ins can be toxic to your mind.

 

choose carefully.

Key 10

Momentum
 

this key is simple . .

when you have a goal of doing for example a 4 day fast, & you find that on day 4 you are supercharged & able to keep going, don't stop! keep going!

you have the momentum, it's important to always use it.

there will be other fasts where it's difficult to just get to the end goal, so always capitalize on momentum if / when you have it.

Key 11

Mood Regulation

 

controlling mood swings & cravings while fasting is crucial!

 

begin to train your mind to binge on diet sodas and/or flavored coffees.

you have to control your mood, and you have to kill cravings.

caffeine is the #1 tool to assist in these aspects of fasting.

while fasting, binge on all the 0 or low calorie beverages that you love, and tons of great tasting flavored coffees.

 

this component of success in fasting is your mood regulator.

and until the day comes when you take this serious, prepare to fail a lot of fasts.

Key 12

Electrolytes

 

safety in fasting is always priority #1.

 

electrolytes are chemicals that form electrically charged particles (ions) in body fluids.

these ions carry the electrical energy necessary for many functions, including muscle contractions and transmission of nerve impulses.

potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium are electrolytes.

electrolytes are a vital component to safety in fasting.

 

the best source for electrolytes while fasting are multi-electrolyte supplements that can be purchased off of amazon for

very low prices, or 0 calorie sport drinks that are specifically designed to replenish electrolytes, such as gatorade & powerade.

 

understand:

having stated all that i have stated here about electrolytes, understand that this is not cookie cutter. meaning . .

you have to learn your own body, because our bodies are all subjective individual cases, we're not all the same.

so . .

for me, i don't actually need electrolytes until i'm far into a fast.

but for you, you might need electrolytes right away!

you may start experiencing irregular heartbeat, or fatigue, or nausea, or muscle cramping, on only day 2!
 

you have to learn your own body, and there is no intelligent reason to take major health risks.

don't just blindly start popping expensive electrolytes because your fasting for 1 day, but don't ignore your bodies signals to you either.

 

remember . .

more is not better. smarter is better.

Key 13

Marathon, Not A Sprint

 

remember that fasting is a marathon, not a sprint.

the entire issue of weight control is a lifelong issue.

 

we all want to lose as much weight as possible, as quickly as possible.

but the key understanding is that, even if you could wave a magic wand and be any

weight you want instantly, tomorrow, you are right back into the fight of weight control again.

it will never end.

 

controlling your weight through fasting is for life.

so get you mind developed with these keys, and prepare for a long ride. this is not a sprint.

Key 14

Machine Mode

 

prepare for mood swings the like of which you have never experienced.

prepare for depression so strong & persistent, you're a slave to it.

 

for me, day 30+ causes mood swings & depression spikes.

but eventually they stop becoming swings & spikes. they become a constant.

 

your genetics programed you to eat. your mind & body will eventually do everything in their power to break you down & make you eat.

eventually you will need to stop being a human being. being human means suffering, and the desire to end it. but to a machine, it don't matter.

eventually, you will need to think of yourself as a machine, and forget that you are a human, with the option to quit & fail.

 

as a machine, you don't care about the pain anymore, because you accept that it will never end.

you expect it & accept it.

eventually, when your self perception as a machine becomes strong enough, pain will become irrelevant.

 

remember . .

in life, there are no better teachers than hate & pain.

take your pain. enjoy it. it will make you stronger.

 

failure is not an option.

Key 15

Death Of Time

 

time will become your enemy. time will become the thing that hurts you the most.

there will be mood swings. there will be depression spikes. but in the end, it will be time that hurts the most.

 

to kill this suffering is to learn to kill time.

eventually, when your skill at killing time is strong enough, you will forget the day of the week, the date of the month, or what day you are on.

 

time will become your main enemy, thus time must become irrelevant.

the death of time must become your 1st priority, or time will become a burning acid you will have to endure.

Hi Keke! I'd like to join ^.^ I'm often a lurker and have been building up to posting in the previous thread but haven't even caught up with it yet.
I've been really struggling with sticking to my fasting plans recently until a few days ago. I'm currently on day 3 of an unknown amount. I liquid fast, I hope thats okay here. Ooo maybe I can aim for Mondays to be water fasts!

Oh good. You did a good thing trying to bring us all back together. It seems many really rely on the weekly fasting thread. It does feel cozy and safe. I’ve found myself being more active in the weekly/long term fasting thread than other areas of MPA in recent months.

I didn’t realize how close I felt to the old thread and the community that made it up. I went no contact with my brother officially yesterday because he’s very toxic and betrayed me, so this kinda hit me harder considering how I was already doing. I’m still trying to catch up on what’s going on, but I was shocked. I didn’t expect it at all.

I’m fasting through to Halloween, or at least that’s the plan. I still have my emergency protein powder to make a shake with all my electrolytes if I feel I may crack. Having coffee now. 98 days and 5 hours until Halloween, 159 days until the new year. Plenty of time to reach my UGW so I don’t ring in 2022 still fat and far from my goal lol. If I stick to this I’ll be my UGW on new year and around 134.2lbs on Halloween based on my excel spreadsheet weight loss prediction. I restarted my spreadsheet with my new SW on Saturday. So even though I’ve been fasting well, I had a cup or juice to give me back the pep, and I’m kinda restarting.

This long fast goal thus is either 98 days or 159 liquid diet type of fast days haha.
So it’s day 1/98 and if I manage to surpass 98 it’ll be day 1/159. Here I go.

Not intentionally. A recent dilemma took away our group's space. I personally believe it is all a misunderstanding. My friend that is no longer allowed to be on MPA, has been very decent to me over the years. I do not believe him to be a threat. 

 

But, I know my words me nothing. I am feeling a bit powerless. I hope everyone can let bygone be bygone and all be well again.

Indeed it won't be the same. I hope I can be as dedicated to the thread as he was. I doubt it. My mentality, or lack of, can leave me behind in a rut. So, I will not be present as common as he was. Still, Mondays, I will force a presence. Instability comes with my illness quite a lot, but I can at least do that.

My fasting skills have totally gone out the window, I totally need to build it back up again. I've been slacking for months lol

Honestly, same here. I NEED caffeine to carry me through a fast nowadays. I believe bulimia has made me much weaker over time. I think binge/purge is a valid option on somedays. So why bother fasting? This is a terrible way of thinking. Fasting is far more superior to a binge/purge, logically.

Hi Keke! I'd like to join ^.^ I'm often a lurker and have been building up to posting in the previous thread but haven't even caught up with it yet.
I've been really struggling with sticking to my fasting plans recently until a few days ago. I'm currently on day 3 of an unknown amount. I liquid fast, I hope thats okay here. Ooo maybe I can aim for Mondays to be water fasts!

Oh good. You did a good thing trying to bring us all back together. It seems many really rely on the weekly fasting thread. It does feel cozy and safe. I’ve found myself being more active in the weekly/long term fasting thread than other areas of MPA in recent months.

I didn’t realize how close I felt to the old thread and the community that made it up. I went no contact with my brother officially yesterday because he’s very toxic and betrayed me, so this kinda hit me harder considering how I was already doing. I’m still trying to catch up on what’s going on, but I was shocked. I didn’t expect it at all.

I’m fasting through to Halloween, or at least that’s the plan. I still have my emergency protein powder to make a shake with all my electrolytes if I feel I may crack. Having coffee now. 98 days and 5 hours until Halloween, 159 days until the new year. Plenty of time to reach my UGW so I don’t ring in 2022 still fat and far from my goal lol. If I stick to this I’ll be my UGW on new year and around 134.2lbs on Halloween based on my excel spreadsheet weight loss prediction. I restarted my spreadsheet with my new SW on Saturday. So even though I’ve been fasting well, I had a cup or juice to give me back the pep, and I’m kinda restarting.

This long fast goal thus is either 98 days or 159 liquid diet type of fast days haha.
So it’s day 1/98 and if I manage to surpass 98 it’ll be day 1/159. Here I go.

I tend to be in the challenge or fasting/cleansing thread myself. I'm sorry for you hardship. I haven't felt any directly. It just more of a "Wow, they seem to have a good enough time without me. Would I even be missed?" It gets me thinking at times. 

 

It sure would be nice to start a fast on August 1st and end October 31st. I don't think I am weight or nourished appropriate to do so do to my pitiful little binge/purge episodes. But, I will make Mondays clean as possible.
