Hi so I just ate hot and sour soup with beef balls, I'd estimate I only ate 2 cups of soup with mushrooms and just 1 beef ball but I'm kind of freaking out. How many calories is in this do you think?? I also had half of one of those side-of-white-rice bowls.

Does anyone have any idea how much this is? It seems like (on google) hot and sour soup and Chinese beef balls aren't very high calorie, but I don't know if I can trust that

(This was a social thing where I had to eat something, I chose this because I thought soup would be the safest choice but now I kind of wish I cancelled even though I had a good time socially, ugh.)

Glad you had a good time OP. No way it’s over 400. Maybe with rice 450?? Probably closer to 300 but I always overestimate

its an Asian style soup and it’s served in a lot of Asian style restaurants. I don’t care for it because it’s so... thick. But I’ll admit I’ve only ever tried it in an American restaurant. I had to pour water in mine because it was literally a gel consistency. I always choose miso or the wonton soup if it’s available

I know exactly what you’re talking about. Especially with most Chinese food cooked with copious amounts of oil, I didn’t believe it either when the hot and sour soup is only 90 calories per cup. But there’s quite a bit of vegetables and the spicy pepper helps metabolism. Overall, when compared to egg drop soup (similar consistency but lower in calories I think, weird right?) I’d say 90 calories per cup is about right. Idk about the beef ball, but 1 oz of beef is 60 calories. 180 for soup+ 180 for let’s say 3oz of meat (size of ur palm), I’d say about 360 calories

thank you, this makes me feel significantly better. yeah, given how much sauce & oil most restaurant Chinese food has, I was definitely scared to eat almost anything on the menu and couldn't believe when Google said 90cal per cup

haha yeah this was my first time having it so my place could've been the one to mess it up, who knows! it was pretty good thin though so maybe you'd like it more if you tried it somewhere else? (assuming most other places are thinner too)

The broth base is vinegar and a little sugar so I'd say 100 or less per cup
