Hey, me! Well not anymore but my mom used to tell me the story of my bangs. It goes like this:
When I was 4 I used to have bangs (fringe?). My mother notices that the two sides of my bangs never grew out. So she watched me closer and found out that I ATE my hair. Haha.
She told this story to me when I was 14 after telling her that I developed the habit of eating my hair once in a while. She was like, hey I know that why, are you telling me, lol.
I don't do it anymore, well maybe once or twice a year. I guess I "grew" out of it, pun intended. I like the very fray ends, I ate it little by little, breaking it up in teeny tiny bits... Idk, maybe we're addicted to keratin? ^~^
I was also a chronic nail biter since the age of I don't know. She (mom) says the moment I got my teeth my hands were in my mouth, biting.
I grew out of that too.
It'll pass. Don't worry.

I pull out my lashes and chew on them, never known why I do it.

I pull out hair and chew on it especially when I'm stressed, but I'll also pull on my eyelashes and eyebrows doing the same thing. (usually I eat the lashes and brows, sometimes I eat my hair, other times I just chew on it.)

My hairline is uneven because of it :/

So you're not alone!

I used to as a kid. My mother told me I'd get a bezoar if I didn't stop. I must have grown out of it but I don't know when.

When I was a kid I used to have to keep my hair short or I would chew it if it got near my mouth. Must of been a stressed out kid because now I bite my nails!

You aren't alone! I've had trich for 15 years. Eyelashes, then about 4 years ago my scalp. I don't eat it thought but I totally understand the frustration of pulling your own hair out.

Ive had it my entire life. My hair is cut in a pixie because it got so bad that I had no hair in the back. I pull it out first then eat it. Being warned about a bezoar doesn't make me hesitate :( . I don't even think I've been able to go one day day without pulling/eating. I've been to a trich specialist but nothing has worked and I'm worried that this may never go away. I wish

I could just keep it contained to my eyelashes or eyebrows, but I just cannot stop and I feel like a crazy person!

I've been keeping my head shaved really short and wearing wigs every now and then.

My first step to get away from trich was a pixie.. but that didn't work, because the hair was still long enough for me to grab a hold of. Second step was shaving my head, and that has helped a ton. I know that it's really, really scary to think about shaving all your hair off but you'll probably look smexier than you expect, lol, and if medication/therapy isn't helping, you might have to keep trying new things. you can also shave off your eyebrows and draw them on (it doesnt look as weird as you think, trust me) and keep a little bit of beeswax or mascara on your eyelashes every day to turn you off from pulling/eating them. i know how it is to feel completely crazy and stuck. trich is really fucking complicated and scary. it's hard.

I have trichotillomania but it's not as bad as it used to be.  I used to eat my hair but I don't any more.  Don't have the urge, and it would be nasty to get a trichobezoar.

I eat my eyelashes and eyebrows and arm hair I'll sit there and chew off my arm hair... But I also eat my own skin. Could this be connected?

I had trichophagia/trichotillomania & dermatillomania/dermophagia (excoration) for most of my life. Once I bit my entire nails; blood, skin, meat included. Beating it took a tediously long time and there's a constant risk for eventual relapse. But hair grows back. very easily. I solved it completely on my own through menial reconditioning. Also, it helps to replace dead protein with protein.

Ive always done this but never eaten it. I have an awful habit of constantly looking for split ends and biting the ends off them. It's just turned into a habit from when i was about ten. People look at me weird and stuff, i hate it :(

I've had pica since I was a child. I managed to stopping eating the bad stuff that I used to eat (i.e. crayons, pencils, erasers), but I can't stop eating my hair. Ugh!
