asalaamoalaikum wo barakatu wo rahmatullah  sisters

i'm a muslim revert. I had to give up a lot of things from my old life when I reverted to  islam, but my ED has been the hardest one to kick. I 'recovered' for a bit with that first adrenaline rush of being a new muslim, but when my first Ramadan came around, fasting just became natural again.

I have not fully converted to Islam yet, I grew up Christian but I have been pulled towards Islam and I actually like it. I plan to do Ramadan and basically do every thing a Muslim would do (Prayers, eat halal and everything) so that I can tell if I truly want to convert. However this will be my first Ramadan (Where I actually plan to fast) and I am really nervous. It is during a really busy time in my life, graduation, finals, college soon, and a huge vacation. All right in the middle. Also afraid that I will go back to bad old habits. :/

Yeah I am Muslim but I'm also American so my culture is different. I don't wear hijab I think it's more cultural my mom wears a scarf but not a hijab. People always think she's Christian even though she prays 5 times a day with coworkers watching.... They still think she's a religious Christian not a Muslim.

Do you not live in an area with many muslims? Sorry not meaning to be offensive - I'm just curious - I find it strange that they think she's a religious christian if she prays 5 times a day and wears a scarf?

Anyways another fellow muslim here - Ramadhan Mubarak to everyone for next week!!

Her name is bayyinah too. Lol.

I live in America it's always few to find. My mom looks and sounds like other black American women. She doesn't wear an hijab she wears a regular scarf upward. So people don't generally think Muslim when they see her some people think her name is made up. Then they just think she's a religious woman. She dresses the same as other Western people as that's what she is culturally. She even fasts. People still don't think she's Muslim just a devoted Christian. My mom is

I have in the past gotten harrassed for being Muslim though and I don't wear a scarf or pray a lot. No one really gets surprised with me. Muslim is generally seen as an origin to ignorant people. Plus there are quite a few black American Muslims but they don't get as much attention as foreign ones do.

That's interesting... I'm from England and I also wear western clothing as do most muslims here. - Some wear hijabs and some don't and there is a very wide range of different ethnicity's of muslims. Most of the big cities do have muslim communities. Whenever I've studied/worked with non-muslims they are quite understanding on the whole - and if they don't know much about Islam they just ask general questions.

I'm sorry you've been harassed for being a muslim :( That must of been awful.
